Interview vs. no Interview

I remember reading somewhere that applicants the admission rate for applicants with interviews is higher than the admission for applicaints without… i haven’t been called for an interview yet so can anyone confirm/refute this?

Yea, people who interview have higher chances for admissions. If you are not contacted by December 1, call Penn and ask them whats up. If you are in a major metropolitan area, there may be a lot of other kids to interview. If you are in the middle of nowhere, there may be noone to interview you.

my interview just called and said he will interview me this sat

lol i'm scared -_-

dec. 1 might be too late considering decisions come out dec. 15, I'm going to call tomorrow.

who're u gonna call? i found a link to the chairmen of the interview committees in different states. would that help?

I actually would like that link. My home phone has had some problems the past week (not to mention my mom's three-four hour conversations) so it is possible that an interviewer called but could not reach me.

lol my moms always on the phone too. id be highly upset if it was her fault that my interviewer couldnt get through.

just kidding... no phone numbers there =(

Is it just coincidence that those with interviews are admitted at a higher rate, or is there an actual reason? I'm basically in the middle of nowhere...that sucks

well... they can't penalize you if there isn't someone to interview you... i mean it's not like you don't want to interview... b/c most of us really do

Straight from their site:
"Although not required for admission, the alumni interview can be a valuable source for learning more about the University. In addition, we encourage you to rely upon your application for admission as a forum for presenting the many unique aspects of your candidacy."

It seems the interview seems to have absolutely no weight on admissions. The only reason for it is so one can learn more about the University.
So don't be too worried if you don't get an interview. It's not like MIT, where they clearly "encourage" the applicant to have the interview. Not the same here.

Having a good interview can do nothing but help you... Why wouldn't you want another person (a respected Penn alum at that) writing you a favorable review?

yea i dont remember if this was MIT or penn but something like ppl with interview have a 50% higher chance of getting in (not confirmed)...

i just called for my penn interview yesterday, and he said that they're trying to squeeze all of the interviews in before thanksgiving, because most apps are going to be reviewed soon. so i'm having mine tmw! Not last minute or anything... They also gave me a guy from pretty far outside my area (like 45 minutes away) ... don't really know why..? lol Im in MA so there are penn alums everywhere

I ended up doing an interview at the alumni house instead of a local one because I found out I could do that from the lady who called to set up the interview, but I'm in MA too, and when I got called it was going to be somewhere only about 10 minutes away from my house...thats weird that you have to travel so far because there are so many alum in MA!

at least you have an interview though! I have heard that it does not hurt you if you don't get one because they don't have enough time or people for everyone to have one, so it can't count against you. I have been told that it doesn't play a huge part even if you do have one unless it is VERY good, or something goes badly. To people who are worried about getting interviews, or who are waiting to have them, don't stress, cause they can't count against you if you don't get one, and if you do get one it is actually really pleasant and conversation like. They aren't trying to scare you they are just trying to get to know you so the admissions board can know a little more about you that doesn't show through silly test scores and GPAs!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

^^ and sry it wont let me edit my post but i meant to say i GOT called for my interview yesterday. and yea... I donno thinking about maybe its because they wanted to set me up with another science major?? (he was like its great you want to be a phsyics major because i can tellyou about profs etc..) but 45 minutes!! goodness. we decided to jsut meet halfway lol

I know a few people who do interviews for Ivys (not Penn, but as close as I can get) and they say interviews don't do as much as you think. They may help the college get to know you a little better, but will not offset any glaring imperfections that would prevent an acceptance anyway. A bad interview may hurt your chances though. Life's not fair :(

Obviously an interview can't repair any big holes in your application.
If everything else is really good though, I'm sure it won't hurt to have another favorable letter in your admission folder.

I had a department interview over the phone with the dean of the nursing school last night. There are no alums close to me ( kansas) I didnt get one of those interviews.

did everyone here who had an interview or was called about an interview recieve the blue card saying that all applicaiton materials were recieved? If you did get this card, when did you get it?
