interview Wednesday! o_O

I haven't had any interviews yet, my interview for WashU is this Wednesday, on my way from school to work (I usually have about 30-40 minutes to waste between work and school, and the interviewers office is between the two). How do I dress? Would work clothes (cords+tee or jeans+polo) be acceptable, or should I dress it up a bit and just change clothes when I get to work?

I'm nervous.

Mine was with an alum. We had it at a Panera's and it was very informal. In fact, I outdressed my interviewer by quite a bit, heh.

Rule of thumb though: It's generally better to overdress than to underdress. So if you're unsure, go with dressing it up a bit.

Don't stress about how you're dressed. You should go in comfortable and relaxed and tell the interviewer you're on your way to work right after. A clean, newish polo shirt and jeans or cords would be fine. When S interviewed last summer during a visit to WU, he wore a casual dress shirt and khakis and was on the dressy side. Most kids wore shorts or khakis and a polo shirt (it was dead of summer.) For the Northwestern interview, he wore jeans and a washed-out polo shirt, and true, he was underdressed compared to other kids, but the interviewer laughed it off. It wasn't important. (And he was accepted there also). They're interviewing you to be a college student, not a bank president. Just be prepared to show that you've done some research about WU and why it would be a good fit for you and vice versa.

Wash U has alums, senior students, and parents as interviewers. The interview is informal and should be comfortable. Read that last line from jazzymom above. That is exactly what the interview is about. I interviewed one student who had specific questions, and had referred to marked pages in the catalog he brought with him. The interview is not about the student's academics; the interviewer does not have the application of the student being interviewed. It is about the student's interest in Wash U, and to answer any questions the student may have.
