Interview with Columbia Student?

I have recently been contacted by a Columbia student regarding an interview. I was wondering if the interviews are distributed randomly because someone else from my school did not receive an offer. It is also an interview with a study-abroad student and is supposed to be via skype or phone. Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks!

Are you applying to the engineering school? I heard that only 31% of the students get interviewed and they are making a broad appeal for alumni and students to do more interviews.

I think they are distributed randomly. I just got an emal from an alumni that wanted to do an interview as well.

@Falcon1,
Yes I am applying to Engineering. Is there a reason why?

Just general lack of support. I would not read anything into whether you get an interview or not. It is basically random as Wawapower suggested.

Ok thanks I was just curious because it was from a non-local student (study-abroad)

My interview was over phone! I am an international student. My interviewer is from the same country and came back home over Christmas.
