Interview with Columbia

Just got an e-mail from a Columbia alumni requesting an interview with me. Is this a good sign that they're actually considering my application?

Prior to this I was under the impression interviews were only granted when an applicant requests one, not the other way around...

DS was emailed by an alum and has the interview next week, it was not as a result of a request he made. I have no idea if it means they are actually considering you - would love to know though

It doesn't matter either way. Now that they've asked you it would be stupid not to go! Good luck with whatever you choose!

Oh yes I'm definitely going :P

What does getting an interview mean?

No idea... I'm hoping it means something good...

Getting an interview means only that the scool has alumni in your area who are willing to conduct interviews. Schools try to offer interviews to as many candidates as they can, regardless of stats. It is neither a good sign nor a bad sign if you are offered an interview. When a school receives your personal information, it adds your name to a list of all applicants from your region. The list has nothing to do with grades/scores etc. The list is then given to the local alumni office and alumni are assigned to interview candidates. Interviews generally play a very small role in the admissions process at the ivy league schools and the ivies do try to interview all of their candidates if location permits (Harvard interviews everyone). Thus, unless you live in a foreign country where it would be impossible for you to meet with an alumni, it is likely that you will be contacted by an alum of all of the ivy league schools to which you applied.

oh, i have my columbia interview on wednesday. ::excitement::

i've never had an interview before, except for a job...
