Hey guys,

So I have an interview for an internship with a power company tomorrow. I was wondering what kind of questions they usually ask.

Also, if you guys have any additional advice I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

One of my friends interviewed with the local utility for an engineering position a few years ago. They were asked what was the voltage of the plugs in your house. Apparently she was the only one that got it right all day.

110VAC at 60Hz, isn’t it? Unless you are talking about the 220VAC connections for select systems like washers.

What is the position? aka what kind of department (could be anything from district engineers to substation engineers, etc).

I’m currently co-op’ing with a power company. If they’re looking for interns, they most likely aren’t expecting you to really know anything. More likely than not, they’re looking for someone that will be easy to work with (personality wise, hard worker) that is willing to learn a lot.

Like RacinReaver said, you may get questions as simple as that. My interview questions were all very straight forward and they weren’t looking for specifics (nothing technical).

Edit: I have done another internship prior to this co-op, so I have a feeling I definitely had a leg up on the someone-EE related question. Only in that I didn’t make myself look like an idiot and could give a legitimate answer (the question was something along the lines of “describe how power gets from an electric company to your house”).

Thanks for the responses guys.

I don’t know what specific department I will be in but they said that our departments will be determined after they have worked with us for a bit and know our specific strengths.

Also, do you guys think there might be any circuits questions?

I interview with Centerpoint Energy for an internship and there were no technical questions. Ones I can remember from the
