Interview

Hi,

Pardon me if this has already been asked on the Rice forum (actually, I'm sure it already has, but I can't find it), but I was a little confused about the interview. I just requested an off-campus interview, and the confirmation page said that interviews were "purely for informational purposes." Does this mean that Rice interviews are informative and not evaluative? And if that's so, does that mean the interviewer won't send a report in to the school?

On a related note, I just had an alumni interview with University of Chicago, and while my experience was more like a chat--no formal Q&A--(which made me think it was informative), my interviewer later e-mailed me saying he had sent in a report. A couple other kids from my school also had their alumni interviews (with different interviewers) with Chicago and did have formal Q&As, which further confused me. I assumed that all alumni interviews were supposed to be conducted in similar manners. I'm probably reading entirely too much into this, but still, it would be nice to know what the actual purpose of Rice's interview is. Thank you!

I am not sure what that means, but interviews are definitely evaluated as part of your application. The interview will be informal, allowing them to get to know you and you to find out about Rice.

Antarius is correct. The interview is very laid back, but they do send a report to Rice upon completion. Don’t worry too much about the interview! It is generally just a way for the school to make your application more personal. My interviewer was really great, and the interview was more like a conversation. Be yourself and you’ll be fine, good luck!
