Interview???

So, I initially assumed every school had a 10-15 minute long interview with students. But UMich didn't have one! Just brief conversation before and after the song and monologue. So which schools do or don't have an interview? I want to know what's going on before I get there and I'm having a hard time finding any information on this.

Here's a list of the MT schools I'm auditioning for.

Syracuse
Ithaca
CMU
UArts
BoCo
Elon
Emerson
Pace

Thanks!

My daughter reports no conversation to speak of during the Elon audition.

Based off of my audition experiences, I can say I had no interview at Syracuse or BoCo. However, I did sit down and talk to a woman for about 7 minutes (think her name was Kat) after the acting portion for CMU. Hope this helps!

Thanks everyone! :)

No interview at Emerson aside from a question or two when you do your monologue.

At UArts, there is an interview. You can be asked “routine” questions such as why UArts, what your aspirations are or specific questions based on your resume and audition pieces. For example, my daughter had attended summer programs at UArts and Syracuse and my daughter was asked to contrast the programs. She was also asked to talk about one of her songs.

Boco will sit down and speak with the auditioner for a minute or two.

Kaf* at CMU. Most people auditioning you will give you a good conversation. But it’s not exactly what I would call an interview!

I had an interview at BoCo as well. Right after the singing portion. I also had a little “interview” after the acting portion.

Ithaca and Pace are both up in the air. Ithaca asked some people why they were interested in Ithaca, but not myself. I was asked a few questions by Amy Rogers about why I chose my pieces and the decisions within them but not really any questions about the school itself or me personally.

This is a really hard question to get a handle on because it really depends on the individual.
Of your list I auditioned for Syracuse, Ithaca, CMU, and Pace. They all talked to me for about 5 minutes or more, mostly about people I’d worked with, my background, and how I chose my pieces. I got into all 3 for MT except CMU, BUT I also know people who didn’t talk at all and also got in. So I don’t think it really means anything. Hope that makes sense!

I was just wondering more about an actual formal sit-down interview like the one at NYU, which was a scheduled 15 minute event, rather than just a few questions here and there before and after the monologue or song. Thank you so much everyone, you’re all helping me sort of organize my brain for my upcoming auditions! :)

UArts asked questions about the resume; not a formal “interview”

Hi - I just wanted to add a bit to encourage folks to check web-sites for your various schools. Many schools list specifics about the conduct of their audition process. Also, do not be afraid to call the program a simply ask your question, in this case, if there is an interview.

At my BoCo audition I had a short “interview”. After we acted and sang, they had a chair set in front of their judges table and asked questions about either your audition choices, things on your resume, experience, etc.
