interview?

I submitted my app on December 31st. I live in a pretty urban area and have not received an interview request yet. Is this normal?

Read the first post. It applies for Yale too.

I have been doing alumni interviews for Yale for about 10 years and have been a local coordinator for the past 3, meaning I match interviewers to applicants and track them to make sure nothing falls through the cracks. That being said, I don’t speak for Yale, just for myself.

As a coordinator, I have come across cases where an applicant has been passed to me very late in the process, because somehow they fell through a crack. It was only because the applicant checked with the admissions office that the discrepancy was discovered.

The note referenced in the first reply, from a Harvard interviewer, was dead on target – for the time frame it was posted. If by mid-January you haven’t heard anything, and you’re in an area that has interviewers, it probably means your interviewer hasn’t had a chance to contact you yet. But by the end of January, you should absolutely have been contacted if you were going to be. Reports are due to the admissions office by mid-February (although, since the process is ongoing, I’m sure a report later than that is better than no report — I’m just providing the guidance to the interviewers here).

The FAQ is right that not everyone is interviewed. But especially if you’re in an area where other people are being interviewed, I strongly recommend that you simply ask the admissions office if you should have been contacted. They may say there was no one who could interview you, but they may also be alerted to a problem, either in their office (not getting your name out to the local area) or with the local alumni schools committee.

This late in the process, even if they realize there was a snafu, there may be trouble rectifying it. But give it a shot.
