Interview...

I have my interview at skidmore on tuesday. Can anyone tell me what happens during a skidmore interview? Also, what should i wear? my guidance counselor told me to wear something that fits in with the school, and ever since then ive been trying to figure out what that means... and what to wear. But more importantly, what goes on during these interviews? In case you can't tell... it's my first.

anyone? sorry, im impatient.

I think if you wear a nice semi-formal / business clothing, you're fine. Honstly, if i were an interviewer for let's say harvard, and the person was wearing jeans with harvard t-shirt - :/ but a nice shirt(collar) and pants/or skirt like a job interview - only my opinion.

I'll tell you what I just posted for a similar question somewhere on this board... My son had gone on 3 interviews... all fairly liberal LACs (probably very similar to Skidmore). He, as well as the other students in the reception area waiting for their intervies, all wore very casual (preppyish) clothing (as a student going to that school would wear). Jeans/Shorts, Polo shirt, sneakers - my son actually wore leather flipflops.

As for the interviews themselves, all 3 were set up where the person conducting the interview talked with my son for about 15-20 minutes. They chatted about my son's academic interests, ECs - nothing intimidating or difficult (assuming you know what your interests are :-) ) they were all very personable and tried to make him feel comfortable (which they did)! After their chat, we, the parents, were called into the room. In all 3 instances, we were told about the great facilities the schools had, their wonderful programs and such. They'd also told my son he would be a great candidate for their schools.

Nothing to worry about... I'm sure your Skidmore interview will be very similar to my son's (Muhlenberg, Ursinus & Drew).

Go get'em Rachel!

Thanks! :-)

I am an interviewer for MIT. I also work at a university lab where I do not dress up. I get kids with suits and ties and they look really uncomfortable the whole time. I want kids to wear whatever stresses them the least and looks professional. No halter tops or cutoffs. If you were interviewing at somebody's law office, then you should dress up more.

are you interviewing at the school? can you please report back as to how it went and what kinds of questions were asked? i'm very interested in skidmore as well. thanks!
