Okay, so for my Rice interview, I was thinking of asking an alumnus I know to conduct it instead of traveling to Houston to be questioned by a stranger. Can I do that? Can I request for a specific person? And is there something specific that he needs to do aside from the registration? I don't want to ask him and look like I haven't researched this, because I have. There just isn't much online on this sort of thing. This is incredibly important to me, and I don't want to mess it up.
Help?

I don’t know how Rice does this, but Harvard–at least the Harvard Club for which I used to interview–specifically does not want alumni to interview applicants whom they know. In fact, it won’t allow alumni who are parents of high school juniors or seniors to interview at all.

In my previous link, it sounded like ED applicants could no longer sign up for alum interviews… but this link says that October 1’s the deadline for setting up ED interviews.

@Sikorsky, I know it’s a bit unorthodox, but I know that I’d feel a lot more comfortable being interviewed by someone I know.

@Ottoline, thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it.

PleaseRice – if you really feel strongly about this, you could make a case to Rice directly… 1-800-527-6957.

But, it could turn out that the alum who you feel comfortable with could try to over-compensate – in the name of giving a fair interview – and it could be a bit awkward for both of you…

Why not ask your local Owl alum to give you a mock interview, so you’ll get your feet wet and have a better idea of what to expect. You present yourself well here – I’m guessing you’ll do equally well conversing with a new Owl!

@Ottoline, you’re probably right. I don’t want to unintentionally hurt my chances by taking a risk with an unconventional method.
And the nagging voice that is my conscience persists that a mock-interview would be more beneficial in the long run, anyways. (:

Sorry to hijack this thread, but does anybody know when the Interview Request form comes out? I saw Ottoline’s previous link about the deadlines for interviews, but there was no link to take me to the request form in Ottoline’s first link (which expired already)… Am I just stupid? lol

I believe this is it.

EDIT: Actually, now that I look at it, it’s for RD. Hmmm…

overthecrest - call admissions. Scheduling interviews has always been a challenging task with Rice.

I suppose if the alum interviewer isn’t on top of things, it could be slow. It was pretty easy for my son – he sent in his request, a local alum followed up by e-mail, they set a time,
and it all worked out.

I emailed Rice and they replied the next day. The off campus interview option will be available later in the fall - they said to check around mid-September! Hope that helps everybody.
