interview

i received my official contact info today in the mail
it included a name, address, and phone number
what should i do? call or write them a letter?

I think if you read the letter it tells you to wait to be contacted by your local chair. If in 3 weeks you don't hear anything, then contact him.

I would contact him right away...it shows that you want to take initiative.

alanstewart - actually, it says "Please contact your interviewer as soon as possible to schedule an interview." I think you're referring to the email that tells you to expect the letter with the name of your specific interviewer.

That said, I am having a terrible time trying to get ahold of my interviewer. I've called five times, and finally some family member took pity on me and took a message. Haven't heard back yet...will call the committee chairman tomorrow, I think.

Yea, I havn't received an actual letter yet. I got the email about a month ago and still havn't heard anything, so I dropped a letter in the mail to the regional head a few days ago. I hope there's someone closer though, because this guy is in Sioux Falls, about 350 miles away.

I havent received contact info, confirmation, anything. what should I do?

that's weird--my interviewer actually called me way before i got a postcard, and told me to call his office to set up an appt. so by the time i got the card, i already had a date set.

but i definitely think you ought to take the initiative--call. it can't hurt. if you can't get ahold of the interviewer, i would say just call georgetown. good luck to all w/ the problems--hope you get it straightened out.

I talked to Georgetown today because I can't get ahold of either my interviewer or the regional committee head guy. Interviews don't have to be done for ages yet so they told me not to stress and keep trying.

they should get to you within 2-3 weeks after you get the contact info

does anyone know if SFS interviews are any different from the others? i'm thinking that there's no difference and they use the time to get to know you as a person, not to test your knowledge on int'l affairs.

i applied to the nursing and health studies school, which my interviewer (a lawyer) knew NOTHING about. i spent more time explaining my major than talking about myself. therefore i think it was an unsuccessful interview. whatevs tho!

yay!! i finally scheduled an interview!
question: does the interviewer have your application? or a copy of it?
when i spoke to her on the phone, she said that she has a sheet of paper w/ my info on it, but she also mentioned something about the application

i'm just unsure- can anyone clear this up for me??
if she has my app- should i emphasize things on it? or should i talk about things that aren't listed?

thanks!

I had my interview today, and it seemed to me like my interviewer didn't have a lot of information about me. He had my GPA for sure, but I had to state all my ECs to him, and explain them. He was a very nice gentleman, and we had a good talk. Lasted about 40 minutes and we hit all the main interview questions, nothing too random. Anymore questions let me know.

is the interview a significant factor in the admissions process? or is it mainly informational and to ensure that you aren't a serial killer/not a good fit for the school?

I think it counts for only 5% or so of your application, so it isn't too significant.

i personally think its to see if youre fit for the environment/school. thats an important factor students sometimes dont consider in the college search. luckily my interviewer said id fit the environment mainly because im active and whatnot.

My interviewer showed me what information he had on me, and I'm not sure it even included GPA. It's very minimal (that was the point he was making by showing me it). He asked me to do a 30-second commercial for myself, a question I completely choked on, and nothing other really complicated. That one really kind of came out of the blue when most of it was just talking about myself, why I liked Georgetown. He did most of the talking, he was talking about drinking a lot, which was pretty sweet.

It's supposed to be evaluative, but it was really more informative. My guy also took the initiative to call, so his love of Georgetown and caring about the interview probably helped a lot as well.

so what was on that sheet? GPA? clubs? family info?
thanks!

heybucs-
Your interviewer sounds so cool. I just had my interview for another school (I STILL haven't heard from georgetown) and we talked about going to hookah bars for like half an hour. It was really random.

If I remember correctly, the card had my name, phone number, address, and intended major. This was 3 months ago so I'm not 100%, but there is VERY little on there.

If you want to bring a transcript, then go for it. I did, and he glanced at it, but pretty quickly. Just be prepared to talk about ECs and Georgetown. I had done some research before I went, so I was able to throw some names of places in there and such, and ask specific questions that I imagine reflected positively.
