I just now realized that im interested in applying MIT regular if i dont get into my ED school...problem is i missed the interview deadline...if i have excellent grades and am a strong applicant...do i still have a good chance?

also does MIT compete with top schools like HYP, etc...just to get a feel for the applicants...

Last year, 9% of applicants who chose not to have an interview were accepted, while 22% of those who DID choose to have an interview were accepted.

The deadline isn't so strict in MIT, just send in your Part1 and they'll assign you an EC, and contact that person immediately - you may still have an interview.

Yes, MIT competes very heavily with Harvard for students, and some Princeton, but mainly Harvard. Not as much Yale, but, yes to Harvard. ;)

Oh, and Caltech.

Occasionally Stanford - but just because of the weather.

And it pretty much kicks every other school's butt :)

Yes it does pebbles, lol. I guess we compete with Harvard for mathematics and pure science students, but as far as engineering goes MIT wins hands down. (I think MIT probably wins in the pure sciences and mathematics also). And why would you want to go to Harvard anyway? :) It is so easy there, MIT is the place to be. :D
lol, anyway, yes you still have a chance, and yes MIT competes for some of the same students as HYP. In fact, MIT has been said to be overall the hardest school to get into. While its percentage is slightly higher than, say, Harvard, people apply to Harvard just for kicks, while people usually DON'T apply to MIT for kicks. MIT is much more self-selective than Harvard.
So anywayz, good luck on applying, but I must say that if you are just now realizing you want to apply to MIT you are probably not the kind of student that would really like MIT. But I could be wrong! Good luck.
