Interview?

How the heck do you get an admissions interview for undergrad?

you ask for one: <a href=“Case Western Reserve University - On Campus Interview”>Case Western Reserve University - On Campus Interview;
alumni: https://go.case.edu/register/alumniinterview

FYI - my D requested an alumni interview via the website about a month before the early action deadline. She got an automated response from admissions about matching her with an alum, but also that they would let her know either way if they could or couldn’t find someone in our area (we are in a major metro area, so I can’t imagine that would be an a problem). After that, nothing. About 5 days before the early action deadline she emailed admissions again asking about scheduling an interview. No response. She was admitted early action so it’s not an issue any more as far as that goes, but we have not had the opportunity yet to visit the campus, so it certainly would have been nice on her end to be able to talk to someone who could personalize the school for her. The lack of any response to her request is troubling.

I am an Alumni Ambassador and do alumni interviews. We get access to a list of applicants to Case that are in our area and then we can select some to interview. As volunteers, we may also have full time jobs/families so limit how many we can do. I think that asking for an interview is showing interest…and with most colleges, most of the information they use to make a decision is GPA/SAT…the interview just helps them get a more rounded picture of you as an applicant, plus, as you say, personalize the school for her. There may be an admitted students reception this spring where you could get more info.

bopper, I appreciate the fact that alumni interviewers are volunteers and I think it’s a VERY generous donation of time. :slight_smile: However, if the school could not match her with an interviewer, I do think that the least they could have done was let her know that (since they said they would) - especially since she followed up with a second request. There was simply no response one way or the other.

The school puts a list of people in your area and it is up to the alumni to choose applicants…they encourage us to do interviews even after the ED decisions are made…so at any point an alumni could do an interview so I don’t know when they would say “there is no match”. But I agree it can be frustrating.

MinnMa- please don’t let this discourage you…perhaps both of your requests were sent along to the alum and they dropped the ball. Try to attend an admitted students day- I think you’ll be impressed. My D is a freshman at Case and I am so impressed with every aspect of this school- from applying to acceptances to admitted student days to orientation and every conceivable communication opportunity along the way! They spell out every process from housing to registration in detail and are always available to help. I think your non-responsive alum is an exception and hopefully won’t color your view. Good luck!

Should my daughter request a local interview ? Since she applied to PPSP, she will fly to Case for a PPSP interview if she is invited. So, I told her not to request a local interview, not wasting time. I’m not sure I gave her right advice. Any opinion ?

Dad2013- I can’t even pretend to know the answer to your question but if you have any doubt you should call the admissions office and ask- just to put your mind at ease. The PPSP is such a selective program that I don’t believe a local, alumni interview could possibly help (or hurt). The students we have met from this program are so impressive! Congratulations on your D having the stats to apply and good luck!

Just want to add that if you have requested an interview but have not been contacted to contact your admissions counselor…I just had a case where someone requested and the Admissions Counselor could see that they had requested but it didn’t show up on the local Alumni’s list of close by applicants.
