Interview

I heard before that they look at essays, interview, and letters of rec after they make the first cuts based on test scores/gpa.

How important is the interview? Is there any merit to this? If so, how much help will a good interview give to a student applying?

Thanks!

Oh this is for WHARTON specifically! Thanks!

However Penn decides to whittle down the pile is only a guess. However in regards to interviews, the student’s info is sent out before your file is read. There is no correlation btn offer/no offer of interview and how you’ll fare. The interviews rarely carry any weight at all.

Ah so it really doesn’t matter how well your interview goes then? Like an amazing interview might not be enough to make you stand out?

correct. I would say a very bad interview can sink someone, however. But most interviews play no role whatsoever. Admissions forms their opinions from the rest of the file.

AS a further point, some people never get an interview. My son got into Wharton ED last year and never had an interview. Thus it would seem that an interview is not critical.

As a former interviewer at another school I always had the opinion that an interview was just supplemental. It provided another, albeit small, bit of information for the admissions committee to consider.

Thanks guys! Makes tons of sense!
