I am applying to the hotel school but i am curious would it be better to have the interview on campus or with an alumni off campus? what is the difference between the two?

If you are a good interviewer, and are able to have your interview on campus, do that. You're more likely to get someone to interview you who actually has some sway with the admissions office.

ditto tower; plus you get to know the campus first hand

Most definitely have your interview on campus. I was lucky enough to have my interview with the Dean of Enrollment at the Hotel School, and I'm positive his influence was greater than an alum's would have been.

plus, you can buy a shtick load of cornell artifacts like clothes and wear if to the interview. im pretty sure thats one way of showing your dedication and love for this university

Anyone know how the best route to go to get to campus? I'm scheduled for an interview in January and I need to book flights.

For hotel school admissions, the interview is HUGE. I would say unless it is financially impossible, you should definitely do an on-campus interview. For the hotel school, the interview is such an integral part of the admissions process since they are looking for outgoing, charismatic, charming, (good looking) people, and they don't want to depend on alumni to make that judgement call if they don't have to.

Wonderful, I love interviews. But can anyone give me directions on how to get to campus? I'm from Indiana, what's the closest major airport near Ithaca? I heard Cornell is out in the middle of nowhere in upstate New York.

Ithaca has its own airport. You can also fly into Syracuse.

Closest major airport is Syracuse airport. Ithaca has it's own place where tiny 30-person planes can fly into. I'm not sure it qualifies as an airport. More like just a big room.
