Hi everyone! I applied RD awhile ago and got an email today about scheduling an interview through the alumni association. I haven’t scheduled an interview yet but I’m wondering if anyone else is planning on doing an interview and what to expect. Thanks!
Here’s what happened at my interview three years ago:
Got there, waited like ten minutes with my mom, since I got there a little early. Sat around nervously, and saw the other people from my high school who were also applying to NU.
Got called over by one of the alumni, went to a room with her. Chatted nervously.
Began discussion. It started with what I was interested in, and kind of ran from there. We talked about environmental stuff and sociolinguistics mostly. She had studied linguistics at NU, and so we bonded over that a little. We also talked about what NU had to offer that interested me. We went a few minutes over time, but that was okay. We walked back to the lobby, I think I had to sign something, and then my mom drove me home.
This is a three-year-old memory, and might have some gaps, they might have changed the procedure a bit, and personal experiences may vary, so I’m not sure if this is what you’ll be getting. Overall though I’d say its worth doing.
FYI - Interviews are not required at NU. I have one kid admitted RD and another admitted ED - and neither one interviewed.
