interview

I'm applying at Rice and my interview is coming up pretty soon. I was just wondering if there is anything i should do to prepare for it. From my understanding it's just a way for the admissions people to get to know you. Thanks for any help.

I'm also going to be interviewing at Rice this summer. At an information session, one of the admissions people said that going to an interview can only help you, never hurt -- so there's absolutely no need to worry over it. I would definately think of some things to mention that will show the admissions officer your personality. The interview and the box question are the only opportunities you, personally, have to inform them about yourself. Be sure to have a few questions ready to ask them about the school, because they will give you the opportunity to ask, and it shows them whether or not you've researched the school at all. Above all, relax, be your self, and smile.

Interviews are very hard to standardize because of interviewers' styles. Accordingly, you may want to come prepared with a small file folder (transcript, resume, application info) but you might also expect not to need this info at all. You might ask your interviewer if they need any information about you, and then let things fall into place from there.

It helps if you're familiar with what you've done in high school... try to think through how you've been spending your time so that little but important details like a major club or something don't escape you.

Be relaxed and try to carry a good conversation.

The big thing about any interview, I have found, is to be prepared to carry the conversation yourself to a certain extent. Don't let the interview turn into a question-answer session. You're there so that they can learn about you, so don't be afraid to talk and expand on their original question. Most importantly... be yourself. Don't try to figure out what the interviewer's want to hear... just tell it like it is and be honest (just as you should on your application).

Are there off campus interviews? Cause im visiting the campus friday and did not schedule an interview b/c i figured this out at like teh last minute so no on campus interview. Boo Hoo

There are alumni interviews. I think you can request one when you send in your apps.
