Interview

I scheduled my interview today. It's sooner than I expected -this Friday!
I've had one other college interview, but it was on campus and optional, more of an information exchange.
As a mandatory interview, should I expect something entirely different? Is the interviewer really going to...interview me?

Any ideas? Suggestions?

It shouldn't be any different, pursuant to what the interviewer chooses to do. There are no different guidelines because it is required than not. Keep in mind, that all top schools interviews are "required" in the sense that their optional, but everyone does them. Georgetown is just being direct.

thanks! I get what you mean about all schools basically having 'required' interviews...because why wouldn't you want to really put yourself out there? I guess because they MAKE it required it seems like they are really going to grill you or something...
I don't know. I'm just a little nervous!

hey mollypockets, just out of curiosity, how long did it take the interview people to contact you after you got the initial email. Also, was it done by mail or email? Its been about three weeks since I got the first email and I was thinking about contacting the reference.

I got an email on the 19th saying they got my Personal Data Form and I got my interviewer information on the 26th. I called the number today and set up the interview for Friday. It all happened pretty quickly! And everything was via e-mail, except the phone call to the alumni interviewer.
You should definitely contact them and see what's up with the delay.
Good luck!

alright thanks, I just rechecked my old email and it was sent on the 12th and said contact if I didn't get anything in 3 weeks. I guess I'll wait until the end of the week and if I don't have it I'll contact the chairman of the local committee.

Nct it took about 3 and half weeks for me to get my interview card after the email, so don't trip. Mollypockets, is your interview with a male or female? Interviews are usually much more laid back if the interviewer and interviewee are the same sex. Two guys can joke around really easy, and two females can relate to each other much better. I was lucky enough to have another male interview me, so it was a lot easier to be laid back. It also helped that he graduated in 03' so he was really young. Just be laid back, and don't be afraid to express yourself.

I live right around San Francisco, actually in San Mateo County but I had my Georgetown interview in San Francisco with the same guy you had I think since he was an '03er too. Ben Bleiman right? If you did have him, he was amazingly chill. Talked about a lot of good information about not only like academics but also parties, the girls, good places to eat, and even drug usage. He was just really straightforward and direct. Plus, he was really funny. I've had other interviews already but none have been quite like that one.

Anyway, hope you get in Early Akajjred. I've seen you around these Forums a bit so I can assume you want to go to Georgetown as much as I do.

Naw, my guy's name was Jon Alan Gegenheimer. Hmm. What school are u applying to agentbauer? SFS? College? Business? Do you go to Serra? Let's hope we both get in. My guy was cool too, but he was a little on the nerdy side. Just a little though.

I'm applying to MSB early, and I actually go to Bellarmine down in San Jose. Hoping the Jesuit edge will help a bit. How about you? I'm guessing Riordan? If you actually go to Riordan, it's ironic because we're playing them in football this Friday night.

No, akajjred, I wasn't lucky enough to get a female interviewer :( I don't know how old he'll be...
The interview is at his office. It's on the 21st floor of the brand new (aka expensive) town center. When I called to schedule my interview, I only talked to his secretary. I hope he's laid back!

My interview was very casual, certainly nothing to worry about. It lasted about two hours, but I think that's because we got to chatting and lost track of time. The only thing I found odd about it was how many of the questions were about my family.

That's what I was looking for, thanks GirlA. I have a feeling it's sort of a character reference. I guess because it's a Jesuit school.

My interview was only 45 minutes, but it was at Starbucks, in the middle of his work day, and he knew I had to get to basketball practice right after. We really clicked though. Mollypockets, if you get a real uptight interviewer then be serious and conform to that attitude for however long the interview is. If he is laid back then joke around, follow his lead.

Agentbauer, yep I go to Riordan. Yea, I'm going to the game on Friday. All the football guys at our school are HELLA arrogant because they've won two games in league. I was like good job, but let's not forget what it was like the last 3 years. They just got SMASHED by Mitty. Whatever tho, I kinda have to support the football team because a lot of them are my teammates for bball. Do u play football?

I occasionally go to football games but not this Friday because I have to cram for the SAT II's on Saturday. On your football question, it's actually like the direct opposite for me. I suppose I'm the nerd type since I do Speech and Debate but whatever. Anyway, may the best team win. In the end, I only care if we beat St. Francis. Otherwise, I'm pretty apathetic overall when it comes to other teams (with no disrespect to Riordan).

Yea, I know what you mean. The big games for us are SI and SH, we lost both. Hopefully, we'll beat them in basketball.

how much does the interview count as part of the admissions process? =( i don't my interview went too well. -__-"

Don't worry, it won't make or break your app unless you like flip off your interviewer or REALLY WOW them.

so i guess it depends on the interviewer, but what kinds of questions can i expect. this is the only school I am applying to that has a required interview.

He asked me about my family, where I grew up, what classes I'm taking, what classes I really enjoy, my ECs, my passions, and generic stuff like that.
he was also very dismissive of my anticipated career path, informing me that I probably won't even end up doing anything close to that. I don't think he took me very seriously and was a little bit patronizing.
neat.
