How do you get selected for an interview?
I've had friends submit their app before me, are alphabetically in front of me, are more qualified me but weren't contacted for an interview. However, I received a call.

I know my area has a decent amount of cornell alum too..

The selection for interviews is pretty random in my opinion. What you described is exactly the same for me and my friends. I guess the Cornell alumni in your area are already bogged down with interviews.

The final date for Cornell alumni to send in their information meeting report (aka interview report) is February 12, so your friends should get a call from an alumnus by then.

An alumni emailed me tonight for the interview. Going to call up tomorrow to schedule one. How is it? (for the people who have had it already). Is it evaluative or more about providing information abt cornell?

its more informational than evaluative or at least thats the feeling i got from the alum i talked to on saturday night. we talked for about 10-15 minutes on that phone. the only question she asked was what i was planning on majoring. other than that, i had a couple of questions and that was about it.

unless im the type of guy you can have a short conversation with a determine im totally boring, there wasnt much to evaluate in that phone call. hope this helps.
