do you have to submit your application before scheduling and/or doing an interview??

nope, i scheduled mine for the 20th, but have yet to submit my part2

mines on the 20th as well... how are you going to prepare for this if at all?

Mine's on the 11th... I'm so nervous

I believe they want Part I submitted first. It's the autobiogrpahical basic info -- no big deal. No activity list, course reports, etc. DS has had his interview -- Part I was submitted previously, Part II is in progress.

I just had my interview today, and I have nothing submitted except the first part of my application. Judging from the interview, MIT alums are really down to earth, and they're willing to give you as much information as you want and need. It was a really awesome experience, so good luck with yours! You'll do great :)

thanks for the help, i submitted part 1 about a week ago... getting nervous/excited for my interview!

my interview was sooo relaxed.
he drove the three of us who carpooled after our interviews to Wendy's to have lunch. really really down to earth.

i been trying to contact my EC for a week
called left message , emailed... just no reply!!! ahhh the deadline is coming up!!!

I scheduled and had my interview before I submitted either part of my application, I think. Mine was on September 6. It went pretty well. It was kind of formal, but it was like a conversation. I was very nervous, but I think he understood. I found that it really helped to have a list of questions I wanted to ask him prepared before I went to the interview. However, I'm kind of angry at MIT; my interviewer went to MIT as a grad student, not undergrad, so I couldn't ask him a lot of the questions I had wanted to.

But it's really not something you should worry about. These are generally nice people; they're not out to get you. :)

Alrite...so, my predicament: my interview is scheduled for the 17th, and my interviewer seems pretty chill - at least, he seemed like it over the phone...

Questions:
1) Is there a thread somewhere compiling the good questions/things to do at an interview?
2) Where should I meet him? - He asked me to choose a place where "I would feel comfortable"...w.t.f :

Well, I had my Duke interview in my bedroom...

(Hi all, first post, 'nother hopeful 2012-er.)
Just echoing everyone else; had my interview before my Part 2.

Lucky you; mine said to just meet him in his house.

lol wow...
hmm.. is something wrong if i emailed my E.C. like 5 days ago and he still hasn't gotten back to me?

So, uh, I basically scheduled the interview in a quiet coffee shop near my house - seems fine, I guess.

Now, what I really need is a thread with tips/important questions to ask during the interview? Anyone? Please?

pwafflesprinkles, don't stress yet. Most MIT EC's (including myself) do try to respond quickly but we sometimes cannot. We might be travelling on business (or on vacation) and just haven't seen your e-mail yet. Don't fret after 5 days (though do make sure you got the e-mail address correct etc)

.:Indian:., probably the best place to start is with Stu Schmill's advice on the interview from last year, which I think is still on the MIT blogs (or it will be linked to in one of the following posts). As an interviewer, I have been asked lots of questions on the interview in these forums. You might want to look at:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=107010 or
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=245976

There are many others. If you have any other questions just post them here and I will try to answer them, but with the caveat that there are a lot of EC's and your mileage will vary.

Yay.... just finished mine :] I think it went pretty well

after of 10 days of calling/emailing , I was finally able to contact my EC, but he said he'll call me later about scheduling the actual interview. I am kinda worried since the deadlines are coming QUICK!!!

Don't worry. We EC's are aware of the deadlines, and on the very, very rare occasions that we do screw up, the admissions office is pretty good about blaming us and not the candidate.

Lol my interview is on the 20th too... Does anyone think it will look bad on me if my mom takes me to the interview location (his house) and drops me off? Because I live around an hour and twenty minutes away and I am not familiar with where he lives. (its in a city) If so how long before she should come back? An hour or so?
