hey how do you know that you don't get an interview? Since no one's home during the day, what happens if they call but no one answers? Would they e-mail you or anything?

my person emailed me
they have ur email, home number and cell i think

Mine called me at home, but I was out and my dad picked up. I called him back the next day and left a thuper thilly message...

Couldn't have been that bad cause he called me back tonightttt yesssss..

He doesn't sound comfortable. Hehe.

You know when December 1 comes and goes and you never received a call or email.

AdmissionsAddict,

Is there a way to request an interview? D sent in application mid-OCT, no one called or emailed yet.

As stated previously, alumni interviews are handled by volunteers. One's chance of getting an interview is dependent on the alumni network where you live and how organized it is. My area is one of better ones offering +90% interviews.

my interviews in an hour and a half. yikes

iis it true that where there are not many alumi to do all the interview in certain area, the school select only the students that they feel strong about admitting for an interview. So are those who get the interview have a better chance for admission than thiose who are not contacted for the interview? I just heard this from a Harvard students on cc

thanks

no, all students who apply are eligible for interviews. I am not aware of any school that does any filtering when deciding whom to schedule an interview for - it's automatically done by the office staff, without the admissions officers even seeing the apps.

probably not a whole lot of Yale graduates in Portland Oregon im guessing..i've never gotten a call either.

Common sense tells me that Yale may have already reviewed half of the EA applicants by now. It wont suprise me that Yale would not request interviews to applicants who they already reject as late as now. Just an educated guess?

Jmom: the local alumni interviewers have no idea the strengths of the pool of applicants. And Yale doesn't indicate anything to us besides contact info. The scenario you speak about just isn't possible. If some get interviewed and others don't, it's just random. No need to worry.

The pressure for the alums is to have every EA student report sent in by Dec 1. Again, PLEASE know an interview isn't a magic bullet to thrust any applicant forward -- it MIGHT only add a new dimension to the file. That's why they aren't even required.

Good luck to you all.

Ailey, T26 thanks so much for your comments. It is a relief. We live in East-Asia and everyone is assuming many things.

Sheed30--In case you haven't seen my other threads, be sure to check the email address you gave Yale. You might get contacted for an interview that way. Also, if you applied RD, you might not hear from an interviewer until after EA is over. Maybe you won't be offered an interview, but those are some things to consider.

i'm in miami - no interview call yet (submitted app nov 1)

AdmissionsAddict i did do regular decision. But i also did Questbridge so my decision is kind of supposed to come out November 30

Sheed--Since this is Yale's first year doing Questbridge, they didn't have their act together to do a special notation for Questbridge applicants. All Questbridge applicants just appear as RD--the local interview coordinators don't know who's Questbridge. At least in my area, RD applicants don't get interviewed until after EA, so that might explain what the deal is where you live. Hope that helps.

Yea, but I know others who were regular decision and QB but still got interviews with Yale. It's not that big of a deal that i didn't get an interview. I don't mind

.... my interview is tomorrow. I am nervous. I picked out a dress to wear but since the guy scheduled it to be at his house I'm rethinking the dress.

NeRvOuS!!!!

I just had an interview this afternoon... I was supposed to be at the house for 45 minutes but I ended up staying for almost two hours...

My dad spoke to my interviewer's wife, when he returned to pick me up... later on, he said that she practically said I had already been admitted, and from the way he saw it, she was simply trying to convince him that I should go to Yale as opposed to any other colleges. He said that she mentioned how most of the kids her husband interviewed got admitted, but they ended up going to Harvard or some other school instead. My dad is convinced that the main purpose of the interview was for them to convince me that Yale was great and I should go there instead of other colleges...

I think he's a little too optimistic.

The interviewer probably asked me about 5, 6 generic questions though.. and the rest of the time we just talked about Yale... The interviewer was talking as if I was already accepted, saying things like "it's great that you like the dorm environment; you will do really well there"...and "you'll love Yale, then, if you love libraries..Yale has 22 libraries".. he also described in length the renovations and improvements Yale has made...

I ended up being a little confused at the end, because the interview was probably more about Yale than me. I mean, I know the interviewer got a sense of who I was - people's personalities become fairly obvious after an hour or so =P ..but my question is.. are the interviewers actually supposed to try to promote Yale? To try to get applicants to go there as opposed to elsewhere?
