Interview

I have my Holy Cross interview on Wednesday. Anyone have any tips or possible questions that I should expect? btw it is on campus with an admissions officer.

D was a bit nervous about her interview last year. Turned out to be a very casual interview with a current student who worked in admissions. If you go with your parent(s), the admissions officer may ask to speak briefly with you all together at the end of your interview to ask if parents have any questions.

I think D was asked why HC, if she had a planned major, and other typical questions - nothing unexpected. She came away from the interview feeling good and placed HC high on her list. She is a freshman there now and, other than current finals stress, is very happy.

My advice, as for any interview, dress neatly. If you plan to tour the campus wear comfortable shoes (and a warm coat, gloves, etc) so you can climb the hills and stairs.

-Do you like the school?
-What's your high school like?
-If I went down the hallway and asked people about you, what would they say?
-Something about academics
-Summer activities
-Jobs
-Extracurricular stuff

Pretty relaxed interview.

Hello all,

How will not having an interview affect my chances? I am well within all of the other requirements, but I am wondering if this will automatically cause my rejection. Thanks.

By the way, I hope your interview went well Boston 88.

TxTx87: it will hurt you - it's highly recommended.

aynrand=lame: i was asked different questions for mine....

TxTx87, not having an interview will hurt your chances. During the campus info session, the admissions officer did state that the interview was important because it shows interest.

I would make sure you show interest in other ways. Go on Holy Cross website and take part in their open chat time, etc.

Good luck

Yeah I would recommened and interview too. Mine went well thanks, defintely a relaxed interview with very answerable questions. Basically a review of my activities and what attracted me to HC. I think they stop giving interviews on the 28th, so book one soon.

Glad to hear your interview went well Boston88.

Thanks for responding everyone else. Yeah, it'd have to be an interview off-campus, so I missed the deadline by quite awhile. I am above basically every other statistic that they have--I have a 2070 on SAT's, 3 of 351, and president of many clubs--but if this is going to hurt me, I doubt I'll even send in an application. Thanks for all the responses anyway though.

TxTx87, if you want to go to Holy Cross then apply. Do not let missing the interview deadline stop you. You can show interest in other ways.

Good luck

We took a tour of HC a few months ago - our student tour guide said she did not interview (and she was obviously accepted!).

My daughter took the tour and info session. She later interviewed and ended up applying ED and was accepted (class of 2012). HC was not at the top of her list until she visited. Her interview was very casual. After her interview they called me in to answer any questions that as a parent I might have. This to was quite casual and informative. The Gentleman that interviewed my D was very open and enthusiastic. There was no sense of pressure of any kind.

When should you go in for an interview? I'm a junior in HS so should I do it in the summer? Do they have alumni interviews?

I filled out that online form thing for an alumni interview 3 weeks ago, and I still haven't gotten a reply. I'm kinda worried now...

Soakupthesun, my son is a senior now and interviewed in June (right after his junior year). It would be wise to have the interview in the summer of '08.

soakupthesun- i didn't interview until dec. in fact, i interviewed after i submitted my application. (i was ED.) i don't think it's too important when you interview as long as you do it. i interviewed on campus, the rules may be different for alumni interviews given off campus. i highly recommend doing an interview if you can. it definitely helped me.

I was finally contacted for an Alumni interview (whew)! And it's going to be on Tuesday. :) It's going to be in a casual setting.

yeah my interview was on-campus with an actual admissions officer and the first question was "why holy cross?" and then we talked about school stuff and then he basically told me why the school was a good one. I was nervous at the beginning but at the end I felt that it went really well.

thanks guys oh and good luck kjcastillo. MML1982, did you get accepted? does anyone have any interview tips?

Thanks soakupthesun! I had my interview the other day, and I have to say, out of all 6 interviews that I've had, HC's was the best. My interviewer (an alumna) was very outgoing (just like me! :D ) and we had such a fun conversation about what college is like, and about the things I do at this local art studio I regularly go to. The only tip I have is don't be nervous! These interviews are meant to be a casual way for the college to get to know you and for you to get to know the college. The more outgoing, confident, and dynamic you are to the interviewer, the more enthusiastic the interviewer will be in their report about you.

Thanks for the advice! What are some of the things they asked you?
