My neighbor has coming back from New England for her schools' interview, and she got some e-mails from her interviewer saying that she is a great girl. But I didn't get any e-mails from my interviewers after last week's interview, does that mean I wasn't quite stand out?

Were they in response to a thank you email that she sent? My son did hand written thank you notes and recieved back hand written notes, (about a week after the interview) but his friend e-mailed thank you’s and recieved emails right back. I would not read into it too much - you will probably hear from them…

You shouldn’t let yourself get caught in mind games like this. The decisions get communicated on March 10…not through code words in e-mails, body language of the interviewer, letters indicating extra curricular activities, etc.

If your applications are in…you should enjoy the next two months, continute to do your very best at school (because you don’t know if or when your favorite school might ask your current school for an update), spend time with your friends and be “in the moment” – without dreaming of boarding school or reliving your interviews or rewriting your essays.

If you haven’t completed your applications, focus on getting them done and putting your best foot forward on that front and then, when they’re complete, see above.

February 1 to March 8 or 9 should be the quietest time on this forum. I know it won’t be, but you’ll be doing yourself a big favor if you’re immersed in real life things instead of fretting on choices and events, past and future, that will overtake you on March 10.

The thing weird is I was interviewed by a world religion teacher at a top school, and he never worked as an admission officer before.

Not weird at all. Wait until you go out on job interviews and are interviewed by your future colleagues (akin to your fellow students) and future bosses (akin to your teachers) in addition to the HR department (akin to the admission office).

Can you imagine having your peers interview you?

Forget about reading the tea leaves and trying to find some meaning or clue to your fate in every “touch” you’ve had from the schools you’ve applied to. You’ll get your answers soon enough. Live your life until then. It’s not even worth fantasizing about this school or that one because the reality of your choices and options will be known to you on March 10.

See you then!
