A) Does it say anything about your strength as an applicant when you get one?

B) How much weight, if any, does it hold?

Thanks for responding.

a) No.

b) Outside of the Arch and Hotel interviews, almost none.

I disagree because in special circumstances, the interview has a monumental ability to sway your final decision (towards the better of the two--accepted!). I just had an alum. interview and my interviewer enjoyed listening to all of the accomplishments I have achieved in such a short time. Not only will she mention some recent, amazing achievements of mine, but she will mention my character because during the interview, I definitely showed my sincerity for the school, my passionate personality, my energetic drive to pursue my career, and my maturity as a 16 year old Cornell prospect. Good luck--don't be nervous, just show who you really are and you'll be fine. In my case, the interview will have a STRONG impact (for the better) because Cornell specifically told her that they questioned my ability to succeed in college as a young individual. But I proved them wrong. The interview is often a deciding factor - in terms of character.

As a younger applicant and perhaps in other special circumstances, the interview may hold more weight, but overall, for the vast majority of kids, it is strictly informational (except for AAP and Hotel) and more a chance for you to ask questions and get more information about Cornell. Since not everyone is able to get an interview, it can't be that critical a part of the admissions process. But it never hurts to do an interview nonetheless.

So the interview is important for the hotel and architecture school. What about for ILR? I've been told over and over again that interest in the field is a major factor in admission. I know from personal experience that the interview heavily focused on questions dealing with ILR.

The reason why AAP and Hotel are different is because interviews are ** required ** for admission. The others aren't and not everyone is given an interview (due to lack of alum in area or some other reason)
