So I got an interview in 2 weeks, and I was just wondering what I should do to prepare?

Just a few general thoughts:

Scour the website and learn as much as you can about the school and some of the things that make it unique compared to others on your list. You need to have more than superficial knowledge if you want to demonstrate genuine interest.

Be prepared to discuss what makes you a good fit both, academically and socially. To be convincing, you will need to acquire some understanding of W&L's culture. Maybe speak to some current students beforehand if you can.

You can use the interview to enhance the info provided in your application or resume. Know what the two or three things are that you want them to really learn about you that makes you stand out beyond your written profile. You want to let your personality shine through. No regurgitating directly from your resume or application -- they can read. However, feel free to point out key items or expand on specific areas of interest as needed.

Remember that you are interviewing also, so make sure you know what you'd like to take away from the meeting as well-- give them a chance to sell you on the benefits of attending W&L. Have some questions ready to prompt that part of the discussion if needed.

Consider carefully what you will wear.

Bring something on which you can jot a few notes or have as a reference to remember questions you want answered.

You may not need it, but bring extra copies of your resume -- it may come in handy.

Plan to enjoy it. They just want to get to know you a little. You're on a mission to find the right school. It's not life and death -- just a little conversation.

Good luck.

If you are interviewing on campus, admissions may interview your parents as well. This was the only school that we encountered that did this.

thank you both. great tip on talking to current students FLAVDAD, I have already read their website and pretty much know why i want to go to W&L (1st choice), so I was just trying to find a few more angles. I am really excitied and can not wait for next week.

My ds found the W&L interview one of the lower stress ones he did. He said the admissions counselor that interviewed him was much more conversational than most he encountered and wanted to answer his questions about W&L, too. There were no "gotcha" questions, thankfully. Do be prepared to ask some intelligent questions and do show some enthusiasm and I think you'll be fine!

hey zackr13, my interview with them is tomorrow and i am sooooo nervous!!

i know what you mean. my interview is in less than 12 hrs, and i have been reviewing my demanor.

So how was the interview?

it went great, and it was more of a conversation. we talked back and forth. i was comfortable and at points i was making the interviewer laugh. we talked for 30 minutes about everything from books to politics and then she invited my parents up. my parents lead the conversation with some questions after i had asked my questions during the one-on-one part. really good i thought.

though as my parents were in the waiting area, three other prospective students were being interviewed and all three came out before me and none of their parents went in for the interview. what does that mean? is it good or bad?

Congrats on a great interview! Son also inteviewed there this fall on a Saturday. While we were there, every parent was called in for a discussion with interviewer. One was very informal, happening in the foyer right before a tour took off. I wouldn't read too much into the other interviews - just enjoy the fact that you and your parents had a terrific interview!

Congratulations! Don't worry about the others, maybe you were just a lot more interesting to talk to :-)

Congrats! I agree with bibbist and huguenot. I'm glad to hear it went well.
