interview

I will be applying RD. How/when do I sign up for interview?

They call you, you don’t call them. Not everyone receives an interview, and this process is somewhat random based upon alumni in your area, etc. It’s not a good or bad sign if you do or don’t get an interview. They make up a small portion of the evaluation, and sometimes probably don’t come into play at all.

My son didn’t initiate anything–received an e-mail from the interviewer/alumni and they set something up at a Starbucks-like place. This was after college appl. are due, in late January. The interview itself lastest only 1/2 hour. My son felt fine about it, I thought it seemed way too short, but apparently it was good enough!

More than 90% of applicants last year were contacted by a Brown alum to arrange an interview (there are no on-campus interviews), and more than 80% were interviewed – so the vast majority of applicants were interviewed (many of the students not interviewed attend private schools where no interviewing happens). It is not a random process. We alumni work very hard to try to interview everyone who applies.

Brown14: When your application is complete, your information goes into a databank. There is an alum in your geographic area who will get your name and assign you to a local alum, who will contact you. Interviews for early decision start in November and must be concluded by Dec. 1; most regular decision interviews happen in January and February.
