An alumnus contacted me this past weekend, and the interview is scheduled for this coming Thursday evening.

Would love to hear any feedback from anyone who has done an interview--I'm sure that the UChicago interviews aren't scripted, so is there something specific I should try to convey?

I would like to know that as well as how to we’re supposed to dress. Mine’s in a coffee shop, but I still think I’m gonna wear a button-downed shirt, or should I not?

It never hurts to be a little overdressed - certainly better than underdressed. My younger son wore a button-downed shirt with jeans at his last coffee shop interview (not for Chicago) and his interviewer wore jeans and a polo. He felt very comfortable about his attire and so did his Mom! It’s getting chilly for polo shirts in my opinion, so a shirt with buttons is as good a way to go anyway. I’d say t-shirts aren’t dressy enough and three piece suits are way too dressy, unless the interview is at the interviewer’s office.

I had my interview this past Saturday. I wore a button down shirt and khakis, perhaps slightly overdressed (it was at a Starbucks) but nothing awkward by any means.

My interviewer was really friendly - we basically talked about our lives and she was really happy to give me a better impression of the school. My only advice would just to be prepared to talk about yourself.

I didn’t bring a resume but it may vary from interviewer to interviewer.

My interview was Saturday as well. Wore a sweater and black dress pants. Didn’t bring a resume because I wasn’t asked for one at my last 2 interviews. It went pretty well - I was thrown a little by the 3 strengths, 3 weaknesses question, though. It was a lot less random than my Swarthmore interview - she discussed Chicago’s impact on her quite a bit more, which I liked.

I have an alumni interview next week in Warsaw. I’ll probably wear a suit, just without a tie. Did anyone, who already had interview, memorised anything special, some extraordinary, unusual questions? In Poland there is no such thing as interview for universities, so I can hardly take advantage of experience of people I know.

I have my interview in a hospital office so how should I dress? My interviewer is a Chief of Pediatric Surgery and Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at Stony Brook University (if you have had an interview here can you tell me how it went?).

Heinous, my interviewer just sent me an email telling me to contact his assistant four days after I submitted my request. Perhaps there are no interviewers in your area?

So does anyone know if you’re supposed to bring a resume to the interview? It’s nice to know that you didn’t bring one to the interview, but that doesn’t answer whether you’re supposed to or not. I was told that I should give the interviewer my resume upon meeting her, but I’m uncertain about that.

Okay, so are they supposed to figure something out in particular? Does anyone what exactly they submit to the university once the interview is completed?

I had my interview tonight and, from what I understand, it’s a write-up–like a recommendation letter, but shorter. I figure they have to be pretty specific with the answers the interviewees give; my interviewer asked very precise and particular ?s.
