Is an interview essential to gain admission to Swarthmore? I know the website says that it is not required, but is highly recommended. It is too late to be interviewed if you are a senior.

My sense is that if you live somewhere in the NYC - DC area and do not either visit or interview, it might be seen that you are not seriously interested in Swarthmore. But if you don’t live in the area, I don’t think it is essential at all.

What dadx3 said ^^ and
[read it @ Swarthmore…](http://www.swarthmore.edu/x338.xml)

kap10, on campus interviews for seniors ended over a month ago. Do you live within a couple of hours or so of campus? If so, it is something you should have done. It’s a small school, and the interviewers are really looking for that “fit” of student w/Swarthmore.

Well, it is a little late, but I guess my real question is has anyone gotten in without an interview? My son didn’t find out about the school until it was too late to request an interview. He has great grades and great SAT scores and his teacher who went to Swarthmore wrote his recommendation, but I know all the kids who apply have the best credentials.

kap10, I wouldn’t worry about it at this point. I can only tell you that my sons interviewed, and we live about 2 1/2 hours from the school. However, I’m sure there must be students who have been admitted without interviewing. Did your son ever have a chance to visit the school?

Hi,
My son did not interview because he applied to Swarthmore at the extended deadline (past Jan 1) and the interviews were over. He did get in. So don’t worry.

That makes me feel better. We will visit the campus in the next couple of weeks – just have to hope that it doesn’t snow and make it difficult to drive up there!

Thank you all for your advice. My son is so impressed with what he has seen on the website and read about Swarthmore. I think it would be a great school for him.

This college process is such a learning experience – hopefully this will be easier with my second child!

I didn’t interview with Swarthmore and got accepted. This is my freshman year and SWAT ROCKS!!!

I wrote an article “Pterodactyl Hunt” on the Swat website (under student activities). While Swarthmore is academically demanding (they sell t-shirts in the book store that say "Anywhere else it would have been an “A” LOL) there are many ways to blow off steam and have fun.

It has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life to be here. The staff is top notch, the students are passionate about so many different things yet they are down to earth and supportive. The campus is gorgeous, the proximity to Philly (SEPTA stops right at the bottom of campus) is awesome. We are in a tri-consortium with Bryn Mawr and Haverford and also can take classes at UPenn.

Swarthmore was my dream school and lucky for me my dream came true. It is everything I believed it would be and more.

Good luck!
