So a few days ago a U Chicago alum called my home number and wanted to schedule an interview with me. However I was not home and my parents picked up and got her number (had her repeat it to make sure it was correct). So I tried to call her that day when I got home, and her phone was off, so I left a message, but she never responded. I have tried calling her again yesterday and today but her phone is always off. I left another message today, but I'm getting worried she won't get back at all, as her phone is never on. Am I screwed for this interview, and furthermore, for U Chicago?

how long is a “few days” ago? You should wait at least 1 week before freaking out.

People are busy. They have things to do. They have problems and jobs and friends.

You’ve left two messages. Give it a couple days because there’s nothing you can do now, and try the call again after waiting for a bit.

Interviews play a rather unimportant role in Chicago’s admissions process (they’re optional so not doing them can’t hurt you).

Yeah you guys are probably right. I’m just worried because her phone is never on, and I heard if you don’t accept an interview it’s an automatic rejection.

That couldn’t possibly be correct.

"Yeah you guys are probably right. I’m just worried because her phone is never on, and I heard if you don’t accept an interview it’s an automatic rejection. "

That’s fairly absurd, and I would seriously question the validity of it.

If you don’t get an interview, which is a big if, just shoot the admissions office saying you tried everything you could to get one, and they most certainly won’t hold it against you, if anything, it’ll show your acute and strong interest in the school.

When I was scheduling my interview, my interviewer told me his report had to be in by the 4th. I don’t know if all alumni interviewers had the same deadline, but if yours did, she may be choosing not to return your call because she can’t interview you at this point.

I think my dad got some notification for a UChicago interview a few months ago, and never told me or asked me if I wanted to do it. However bad form this was, I was accepted EA… So yeah, there’s no way that that’s automatic rejection.

alright, so im glad to hear the interview wont make or break my chances. so its been a week since the interviewer has replied, so maybe it is too late. yeah ill shoot an email to the admissions office and let them know
