Interviewing for Grinnell

The dean is coming to my city to do interviews in two days (I have one scheduled) and I'm curious if anyone else has interviewed for Grinnell. What was your general experience? Any curveball questions?

Thanks.

I had my interview last night and it totally wasn't what I expected. Not in a bad way at all, but it wasn't really formal and there were no awkward or tense moments. Mr. Sumner talked to me about my life, what I want to study, what I liked and disliked in high school, and some other things that I felt had nothing to do with Grinnell itself. He is very nice, and quite charismatic. My suggestion, just be yourself, he seemed to appreciate that the most. Best of luck.

I interviewed with an admissions counselor a few years back. It was really laid back with some very good questions but nothing tricky.

Cool, thanks. I feel better.

^^ yeah i interviewd on campus last summer. it was completely fine. definitely no curveballs, just a discussing basically.

good luck

My interview was a blast. Then again, I really like doing most parts of college apps....sort of sad to be finished.

What if you didn't interview? :(

I don't think an interview is required - the dean just happened to be in Portland and I got a letter saying that if I wanted to sign up for an interview, I should call the Grinnell admissions office. You should be fine.

If you're really worried, you can always call up the ad office. They're quite friendly.

It's not a big deal if you didnt interview..

im pretty sure grinnell doesn't place a huge emphasis on it, like a few other LACs do.

You really don't need an interview at all. I thought I asked for an interview way back when, never got a response, but just got an early admittance letter today. Just relax!

Wow what's the story? Is this a 2nd round ed or rd?

For me, I applied RD.

Yeah, someone else got an early acceptance too. I'm hoping it's not a bad sign that I didn't get one...or maybe it's a geographic thing? I live on the West Coast, in Oregon...perhaps they're going east-west and the letter will be sitting in my mailbox today. fingers crossed

Well, I live in California...

lord asquith, if you don't mind, could you post your stats?

Personally, I think my essays were more important than my stats as far as my acceptance, but feel free to look at my stats in this thread:

all I can say about your stats is; WOW....

You definitely deserve your merit award :-)

Heh...I got a letter saying I need to fill in zeros for the student income tax information....since I left it blank.....

Here we go....

Wow, thanks everyone!

But I do still believe that essays are the most important part of the application, so everyone has a good chance to shine! Good luck to everyone, and congrats to those who've already made it!

wow even though i got accepted ED, i almost feel inferior with my stats now :( anyways nice job lord asquith (and others))
