I got an email about an alumni interview, are these sent to everyone, or do they mean anything?

Overall, I don't think interviews really mean anything, it's just a chance to get to know the college better and for them to put a face on a paper application.

Everyone gets them, many people freak out over them, they are meaningless as far as admissions decisions are concerned.

They're mostly a chance for you to find out more about Brown and interact with someone who went there. They won't hurt or help your admission chances very much, but it may provide additional insight into your dream school that you may not have had before.

My interviewer mentioned something about how applicants make it through a first round read or something before interviews are given. I dunno if it should be believed or not...but that's what he said.

I think colleges try to give interviews to as many applicants as they can on the basis of how many alumni interviewers are in a certain applicant's area.

My interviewer told me that interviews can only help chances for admission. So, to me, they're not overly significant, but neither are they "meaningless." Since Brown and a lot of other really competitive schools have a lot of applicants with very similar stats and caliber of ec's, the interview could make the difference.

Are there any accepted students who think that the interview greatly assisted the acceptance? Just out of curiosity.
