Hey guys, I just got contacted by a Princeton alum for an interview and was wondering: does Princeton try to interview eveyone that applies for ED, or is there a cut (i.e a first round of readings) after which they interview those who make it through?

Well they have not contacted me. Congratulations!

Well, I know that you don't have to get an interview to actually be admitted, so don't worry :D. However, does anybody know if they filter out some people before they offer interviews?

Lotus: I am guessing that they do weed some applicants out before offering interviews. My mom (yea she is my mom) says not to worry as she believes I fully and properly conveyed my personality through my essays and they should clearly see what kind of person I am w/o having to interview me. That's nice of her to say, but I think the real reason is because I didn't make the cut.

Well, while it's always good to remain realistic, I wouldn't count yourself out untill the letter comes.

Anybody else?

bump

Um, I haven't gotten a call, but a guy who lives in the same city as me did. So I'm kind of curious why I'm still in the dark. Whatever, we all find out in under 3 weeks, so an interview at this point probably couldn't add TOO much to the overall picture.

lol, still a big crap shoot :/

There is no pre-screening wrt alum interviews.
The local committees get names of everyone who applied.
Contact is made by the assigned interviewer, so everyone should get a call though sometimes this process can get delayed by various reasons.

Still no notification of an interview, anyone else still waiting to be contacted?

I'm waiting and I sent my application in during Septemeber, and yes they have it... but no one contacted me. Friends in my school who applied have already had theirs...

Does this concern you, jacquesier?

It certainly concerns me! My close relative who is president of a company that is a household name and gives tons of money to Princeton even wrote a rec for me and still...no interview. Maybe his rec counts as my "interview" since he knows me? Probably not.

Sometimes there are mixup's in the interview assignment process, so inadvertantly a few students might be "forgotten",
or an assigned interviewer "forgets" to call a student.
There are also more global issues, such as if the Admission Office
transmits a garbled file of applicant info, then there would be delay in sorting this out.

If you strongly want an intv, contact the Adm Office to find your ASC Director's info & contact her/him.
But all these intvs are optional, so OK if you don't have one.

Athough interviews are 'optional', do you believe it is a bad sign if you haven't been contacted ? Are clear admits (I am not one of them) perhaps not granted interviews as there is no need?

That is what I'm worried about. It has ben so long, and I haven't heard, and I must ay I don't consider myself a clear admit.

I am sorry to hear that, jacquesier; I hope things work out for you.

I am not going to contact admissions and request an interview because an interview will not get someone accepted. I figure if they have already deemed me unworthy of an interview, obtaining an interview because I asked them will make little difference in the end. The adcoms are professional and know what they are doing.

I was very concerned too--I just got an email from my interviewer last monday. My person said that all the materials had to be faxed by Dec 2, so our interview had to be before that...the interview is at starbucks, and I'm pretty sure that's business casual attire, am I right in thinking that?

WorldShopper: I would contact them by now. I called a lady with a mistake they had of not cashing my money order, when they really did, and she said that some data was entered when it wasn't really complete, and some was not entered when it was complete. So they may think they sent yours to the region you are in but they really didn't. Make sense?

My interviewer said that they considered the interviews important because it gave you a personality idea, and they compared them to see how they match up with the EC's and essays.

9 people from my school applied ED to princeton, and the three with the highest grades are the three who havent been contacted yet. make of that what you will...

Sweetestsith: You really think I should call? I would hate to come across as a nag (not to offend those who did call btw). If I didn't meet the cut-off for STATS, I don't think they are interested in making sure my personality matches my ECs and essays.
