princeton2010 -- Thanks for the info. What kind of kids are these (besides having the highest grades)? SAT scores, ECs, sports, leadership, etc. Are these the type of kids who would write great essays?

If you are (like me!) applying with not the greatest SAT stats, and basing mostly on EC's, highschool grades, and Essays, I think it's one of those essentially things for you. I worried about being a nag, when I called the lady 7 times to straigten some stuff out for my app, and she was really friendly and said that they have a hard time getting everythign straight for each student when they all come in at once and was glad that I called, so I don't think it would be naggish. The harvard adcoms I know say that if you aren't contacted by the 28th you should call shrugs

Besides, from what I know of you, you are not a nag at all!

Thanks SweetestSith -- I will call on Monday.

worldshopper---one of the three has sat of 2350, combined satii 2390, national hispanic scholar, lead saxophone in jazz band, four year debater, black belt in karate, submitted an arts supplement in improvisational jazz, internship at NASA, state distinguished scholar, co-president of physics team, member of JETS competition team that placed third in the country among large public high schools

another is four year member of track/xc, has legacy, state distinguished scholar semifinalist, various other activities. i think his sati was high 2200s

Princeton2010: Sparkling personalites and overall interesting people or just look good on paper?

the first is generally nice and outgoing, but can sometimes come across as annoying and arrogant.

the latter is one of the nicest people i know, but he is quiet.

knowing them both, i would expect that they each had very good essays.

So, how do they feel about not getting interviews?

Maybe they don't interview "clear admits" and "clear rejects"? I don't know, just a hunch. Wish I was in the former category.

i talked to one of them on thanksgiving and he said he planned to call pton if he hadnt been contacted by monday

I have not been contacted for an interview yet. I am not too concerned about it. I know I didn't get cut off by any statistic benchmark, and I live in Oregon, which are two things that are reassuring. It is also pretty clear that a decent sized chunk of people do not get interviews, and many are accepted from that group. I will call at some point just to make sure there is no mix up and to make it clear I do wish to be interviewed, but I'm not going crazy over it.

They don't screen candidates for interviews. If you didn't get one, it doesn't mean you're not getting in, but don't kid yourself that you're in already. :) We'll all find out soon enough.
