Interviews? Help.

So I requested an interview a couple weeks ago, and I haven't received a reply.
While I understand that not everyone who requests one gets one, what bothers me is that
another individual I know applied for an interview later than I did, and yet said person got one just a couple days ago, while I still have yet to hear anything.
This wouldn't get to me except for the fact that someone made a comment saying "Maybe said person is the better applicant" and its bothered me. What happened?

If you’re talking about alumni interviews in your area, that’s just because there are more requested interviews than they have alumni and if they can’t give an interview to everyone, they sort of do it randomly. As for your being a worse applicant, I doubt they’ve reviewed either of your applications. Maybe someone who knows more about the system can respond more definitively but I’d be surprised if they were skimming apps to see who looked better before taking care of interviews.

they are not assigning interviews based on the quality of an application, it’s pretty much random who gets selected to interview (and not first come first serve) and if you are an area with lots of applicants and not many alumni you might have to wait longer/not get interviewed. The interview matters very little anyways in the college application process.

When I applied to the University of Chicago, I requested an alumni interview. I was worried that because I didn’t get one, my application was somehow less adequate, and they had already rejected me. Not true!
Alumni interviews occur by chance, depending on who is available and in what area (apparently the Londoners were all booked when I was applying). It didn’t affect my application, and I got in. Don’t worry at all.
