Will taking interviews and tours at prep schools on the late side affect my chances in anyway?

I'm not saying take the interviews late, as in past January 31, but later in the allowed timings. You can take interviews at most schools from around the middle of Sept. to the middle of Jan. So will it affect my chances if I take it in the beginning of January instead of like October or something? Or am I just worrying about things to much?

You should be fine. However, if you are not used to winter and traveling in New England or the Mid-Atlantic, please be aware that your travel plans could be delayed because of snow and ice.

You should also look at the schools’ calendars for when classes resume after December break. Some may not resume until around 1/7.

You should carefully check the admissions application time lines for each school. I believe the interviews for many of the schools need to be completed in the Fall.

My mistake. Exeter and Andover both require interview scheduling before 1/15 for interview before 1/31. SPS restricts on campus interviews to before 1/15, and not during school holidays, so I suppose there must be several spots available the second week of January. Rules could be different for off campus interviews??

Sorry to be misleading. From our perspective, we saw the campus visits and interviews as first steps for evaluating the schools / narrowing down the list before going through the long application and essay writing process, so interviews were completed by Thanksgiving.

The question of late interviews needs to address whether you will be filling out applications before you interview or after. If you wait to fill them out till after your visit, then you have a very small window in which to fill out potentially 10 apps (or howmany schools you are applying to). Can you do that? If you fill out your apps before, will you 1. loose out on some insight that you could have incorporated into the application that you would only get when you visit, 2. hate the school on sight and decide that you would never attend it, under any circumstances, thus loosing out on app fee, wasted time. If you do decide to fill out and submit apps before your visit make sure to remember what you said to which school, as the interviewer may have questions for you based on your essay, answers. Another thing to consider – do you have any hook in terms of sports/music? If so, make sure to contact the coaches/teachers early on, since they will be looking to fill orchestra spots/teams and potentially wont have space by Jan.
