Interviews @ Muhlenberg

I’m hoping somebody who already has a son or daughter at Muhlenberg can help with this question–if not, we can call the school, but I thought I’d check on CC first. My S is auditioning later this month for the theater department and will interview with the department chair. Those of you who’ve been through the process: did your S or D also interview with admissions? It had not been on our radar, but I just realized that they encourage interviews with the regular admissions counselors. Any advice or experiences?

My S visited in April of junior year, then visited again in senior year when he auditioned with Charlie Richter and interviewed (over the phone) with admissions about a month later.

Berg is one of the schools that really takes into account demonstrated interest so I highly recommend an interview with admissions.

Thanks–that’s just the kind of info we needed! He should be able to call and set up an interview in the morning before his audition and meeting with Charlie Richter. Thanks for your help!

It even goes beyond demonstrated interest. Muhlenberg takes a much more holistic view of its admissions decissions than some other schools. Admissions looks for good “matches” based on getting to know a student as fully as they can. When my daughter auditioned for Charlie Richter, he strongly urged her to schedule an interview with admissions. The interview with admissions is given weight.

I had focused mostly on the theater program page, and didn’t realize that an admissions interview was encouraged until my son received an actual application packet. So glad to have this confirmed by you guys, and I’ll have him call on Monday. Thanks!

If you can’t schedule an admissions interview on the day you visit campus, make sure you stop by the admissions office and find out who your local admissions representative is. You might be able to schedule an interview with that person when they are in your area. As much contact and interest that you can show will help in the decision process. They also put “heavy” weight on Early Decision candidates. They take a very high percentage of their incoming class from the ED pool. Good luck!

Just checking in to thank everyone for the advice. My son was able to schedule his admissions interview for the morning, and is attending a class around noon and then auditioning (his first!) later in the afternoon. Then we drive 6 hours home so he can be back at school the next day…Gonna be a long Wednesday, but it’s exciting to get the ball rolling. Thanks again to all for your help!
