How many interviews are you guys doing?

Would it be excessive to do 8?

Should I do an interview if it's more informational than evaluative?

Should I do an interview if it's more informational than evaluative?

I was planning on doing as few interviews as possible, but then I had two and they REALLY helped me. Like for one school, I was unsure of applying, and after the interview I knew I was going to apply. I actually like informational ones better because you get the "inside" scoop on the school. One of my interviewers said there's no use in you applying to School A, being accepted, ending up hating it and transfering. So a point of the interview is to make sure you would enjoy going to the school or not.

EDIT: Just did two with one more coming up. After I submit my apps, probably 4 more.

If its more informational than evaluative then turning it down could hurt you! Here's how.

Some colleges are reputed to reject candidates they think are likely to get into other schools they'd prefer, or that are only using them as a safety. Actions you take that put you into this category can put your app at risk. Google "tufts syndrome" for more info.

So if one of the schools where you decline an informational interview is practicing this, they may very well interpret it as a lack of interest on your part. After all, if you're thinking of making it one of your top choices wouldn't you be trying to learn everything you could about it?
