First off, I'm not too too worried about getting into vandy. If I get in I do, if I don't - I don't.

What I'm wondering, however, is if I should do an interview. They only way I can see myself truly going to vandy is if I get Cornelius Vanderbilt (which is a gigantic stretch with only a 1490 SAT). I know letters written by the interviewers go in your file. Would they look at this letter when choosing CV finalists? I'm pretty well-spoken with adults (I cringe at how vain I sound right now) so I think that if I could get called for a CV interview I could possibly get it.

I guess what I'm asking is if doing well at this interview would help me get called back as a CV finalist.

I agree…no role with CV. By the way, I’ve had 2 kids graduate from Vanderbilt (2008, 2010) and you need to have a solid SAT in the 1500’s to be considered. Even with that, LOTS of people applying have that and the competition then goes beyond the SAT. I personally don’t think anyone in the 1400’s will get a nod for that.

If that’s the only way you’ll go to Vanderbilt - CV scholarship - don’t apply and take the place of someone else. Honestly…if you aren’t really interested in going there…find another school. sorry to be so blunt…but look at the number for CV. It’s unlikely.

What does it take to get the CV Scholarship? Would a 33 ACT and outstanding leadership/community service (over 2,000 hours including national spokesperson for Children’s Miracle Network and top winner of national science competiton? How many Ingram and CV scholars awarded each year and what is their typical profile?

Hey! Swimmer! My neighbor got CV and had a 32 ACT! Perhaps you should not paint yourself to be such an authority on the matter.

Not everyone can afford Vanderbilt - even with the financial aid package. It’s 100% “demonstrated” need that is fulfilled - but the university’s definition of demonstrated is very different than a family’s. Yes, I want to go there, and if I get CV I can. You’re telling me not to apply and not to find out if I can get it? Because someone less qualified than me may not get in? Sorry to be blunt, but that’s the worst advice I’ve ever been given.

I know I probably won’t get it, but you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
