I applied ED II to Vanderbilt and I was wondering how much the alumni interviews help. I had my interview a week back and it went wonderfully. My interviewer later emailed me saying that he submitted an incredible recommendation. How much does that help?

My D was told the same thing after her interview last year…she is a freshman at Vandy now and very happy!

I say it can’t hurt!! With competition being so tough, I think the more eggs in your basket, the better. I know my D2 had a great experience at her interview and talked about why she wanted to go to VU, specifically things that she couldn’t put in her app? I think that’s where a great interview can help…maybe show the admit counselors another side of you that isn’t since through scores or teachers eyes? Good luck! Oh…mine D was admitted EDI.

Interviews can help the 5-10% who have great interviews.
Picture the adcom director of your state the night before letters go out. He has 300 applications of well qualified students on his desk and a venti starbucks coffee. He can only admit 100 students. All the app’s have the same grades, test scores and LoR, similar EC’s, and essays edited by mom the English teacher and/or a hired gun. He’s looking for something/anything to help him decide who gets the fat letter.
Your file has an extra letter from your interview. It states great interview, excellent interpersonal skills, great fit for Vandy, admit this kid. ps… let me know when you are in town recruiting this summer and I’ll pick up tickets to the Yankee game for us.

How soon are the applicants notified about their interview?

My S applied RD and hasn’t been contacted yet.
