I applied to Tufts ED1 and only heard from an alumna today to schedule an interview, which is set to take place on Thursday Dec. 9. Is that going to be too late to factor into my admissions evaluation since decisions are mailed Dec. 15?

Yeah, that won't help you at all if you applied ED1. I'd call and talk to them because they said on the admissions website that Dec. 6th is the last day that they can receive reports from alumni interviewers by mail. That means you should have interviewed by the 2nd or 3rd at the latest.

Alumni interviews can be submitted on the web and get there the same day for Tufts. Ask your interviewer if it will get there in time and she/he will be honest. She can call the rep for you as well and let him know. If you were on the border the interview could help you still. Good luck-great school- I graduated from there many moons ago!

I just had my interview and it went splendidly! My interviewer couldn't have been sweeter and we really hit it off. She already knew that I was early decision, and she knew that I was going to be informed on the 15th, but she didn't seem to see that as being an issue in terms of reporting the interview to them, so I guess it'll all work out (I hope!). One way or another, I'll find out within a week... :-)

I'm an alumna interviewer - and I think that, should you be on the edge, they'll try to wait for the interview to come in. They are submitted online - just a rating (1-5) and about a page or two of comments. It's already attached to your name and stuff online - the interviewers click on your name and submit the report. So I'm sure that it'll go through quite quickly.

Best of luck.

ariesathena,

im applying RD and was called for an interview. my friend is also applying regular and she sent in her supplemental form earlier than i did, yet she hasn't been called. any ideas if this means anything or is it random?

I don't think that it means anything. :)

When the forms are sent in and processed, a committee chair gets the name of the student and then assigns it to either a smaller committee chair type or directly to an alum interviewer. They try to match up interviewers and students - as an engineer, all of the students that I got for interviews were applying to engineering. Two of them ran track (which I did as well). Then, the interviewer actually gets around to calling the student to set up an appointment. This year, I got a student from New England - where I used to live - so I had to go through a whole mess to get her assigned to someone else and me re-registered at my new abode. So, your friend could have something like that going on.

Sometimes, there aren't enough interviewers to go around - I never got an interview because too many of us applied. Could be that.

RD interview reports are due at the end of February.

Did one of you send the form in electronically and one by mail? It could make a difference.

If she still hasn't heard in a few weeks, have her call admissions.

thank you very much for your helpful reply!

we both sent our forms by mail, so i'll let her know to call admissions again in a little while..

in the meantime, my interview is today! i'm excited.. i just hope i offer something useful about myself instead of talking his ear off with how much i love tufts!
