Interviews!!!

Has anybody scheduled an interview or got any letter concerning the interview process??
I got one from Yale and one from Vassar, but I have nothing from Cornell. I am kind of worried, so plz tell who is having or had an interview and how did it went.
Any International students having interviews? I'm peruvian, prob not many alumni here in the southern hemisphere. Anyways do post plz.

Apparently they don't contact everyone for interview in the RD round if you're an international. Some of my friends applying to Cornell have been contacted and had interviews, whereas others have had telephone interviews or had nothing at all.

Yeah, I do get that. But don't they even send a letter saying that there is no one nearby to give you an interview? I mean, one should be contacted wheather to confirm or not the interview process right? Where some of ur friends who were not given an interview, given a letter or something telling them about it? Thanx!

Cornell doesn't do evaluative interviews except in Hotel and AAP

Because the non-evaluative interviews in the remaining colleges don't affect your chance of admission, not everyone gets one

Getting an interview does not mean you passed a first round of selection; it's purely random, based on the number of volunteering alumni and applicants in your area.

I got an interview for AAP and it was terrible....
I do think that interviews are NOT totally random because a girl I knew applied to all the Ivy League schools. She got 99 percent average and lots of awards and published weekly articles in local newspapers. Every Ivy League school interviewed her except for Penn, which called her to say not to worry, she was definately getting in. Right now, I know a lot of people who has only had one interview and their scores aren't that high. So I do think it's not random.

random at cornell, not all schools. it's still a large portion of Cornell applicants who get interviews, so at least at cornell, she was random.

Yeah, it seems to me like Cornell offers "interviews" whenever possible, though they aren't really a big part of the app. It's probably not unusual for internationals to not get interviews if they live somewhere remote, but I would guess that students living in areas with a lot of Cornell alums (like NY state) probably don't have a good shot at admission if they aren't offered interviews.

I had an interview for CALS a month or so ago, got an e-mail about it. I got the impression that it's really not a big part of gaining admission; don't worry too much about it.

Yup. I don't wanna worry too much about the interview issue. Its just that every other university has confirmed that the application has been received, except for Cornell. I thought tho, that if i got an interview, that would definitely place that doubt aside. However, since I haven't got it...I am a bit nervous...although in the common app website, it has been registered that my application has been 'downloaded' so I guess that means they've got it.

Anyways, thanks very much and could you tell me what's AAP? Sorry I am not familiar with it, or with CALS.

CALS is College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Just call up the school if you're really that nervous about it.

Yeah, think I will. Thanks man.

AAP is the College of Arts, Architecture, and Planning.

Good to know! thanks.

So anyways, has anybody had an interview already? if so, how did it go?

Yeah, I had my interview in a coffee shop about two years ago. Cornell doesn't place a lot of weight on the interview, as it's not really evaluative. My interviewer asked me like two questions, and then we spent the rest of the time talking about Cornell. Definitely not as tough as my MIT interview.

So, are you currently attending MIT or Cornell?
I know and interviewer from MIT. He is the grandfather of a friend of mine. He mentioned that altho interviws do count, they are not given much influence cuz at the end of the day, its just the subjective opinion of the interviewer and to the admissions board. He mentioned also, that he strongly recommended two peruvian boys last year, but they were both rejected. SO i guess, cornell interviews could be even less important or given less weight. Anyways, thanks!

I'm in the class of 2010 (HS Class of 2006), so I'm still waiting to hear back from both schools. I have heard that the MIT interviews can be important though, and I think I did pretty well on mine. As for Cornell, they basically aren't a part of the evaluation process, they can only hurt you if you come off as a complete ass, don't show up at all, or act extremely uninterested towards the school.
