Are interviews required (or "recommended") at Middlebury? Is there any deadline before which you're supposed to schedule one? I completely forgot to schedule one, and now I'm hoping that it's not too late.

interviews are not required, although they can be helpful in learning more about Midd. You can still schedule an alumni interview in your area. Call the admission's office for questions...

An interviewer lives in my town and apparently has my name to contact me and set up an interview. But it's been a month and I haven't heard anything. Should I call her directly or contact Midd?

Give it some time. Alumni interviews don't have to be completed until mid Feb, and many interviewers have just gotten the names of the students they will interview. If you haven't heard in 2 weeks, call the admissions office.

although interviews are not required, they can definitely boost your chances. my friend visited midd all the way from the west, and he had an interviewer who used to live a few hours away from where he lived, so they had something in common to talk about. He has a good sense of humor, and he told me that interview definitely helped him get in through ED. He contacted the interviewer, who was one of the admission officers, even after the interview... so i guess it's nice to have someone in adcom stand up and talk about you as a person.

hello12-

how did your friend know that the interview helped him get through? it says on midd's website that interviews "aren't considered to be a significant factor in admission," but both my interviews (on-campus and alum) went really really well, and I'm hoping it helps!!! your post was encouraging - can you give me any more info?

thanks :)

would we have to call the admission office to schedule one or will an alum call us?

the alum will contact you (if you have been assigned one). If you're not sure, call admissions and ask them if an alumni interviewer has been assigned to you.

nobody knows for sure what got him or her in, but since my friend had ordinary stats and got in, he says it must have helped. Also, although interviews "aren't significant factors," they are not non-factor at Midd. If your interviewer was an admission officer and you left a good impression, i'd say it must help cuz if i were an admission officer, i'd rather pick someone i know in person rather than a person in paper (if both candidates had similar qualifications). But that's just my opinion, and i don't know to what extent interviews can help. But for shizzle, it can't hurt!
