Interviews

What type of questions do they ask you on the required interview for the Hotel School?

i’m curious to know as well!

also, what type of dress did you interview in? business casual or business professional?

theres alot of info. just search the threads.. like theres maybe hundreds of threads about hotel school interviews. i wrote some. alot of people wrote some also.

ahhh!! interview this thursday! im so nervous!! it’s at the cheesecake factory?
do i pay?

if i were u id pay unless he says that he will pay like 3 times. just come prepared with money or a credit card. i wouldnt eat that much if i were u dont like other an entree. just get a cheesecake slice and coffee. or just coffee or drink. hmm now this is urging me to go to cheesecake factory also and get the pumpkin pie cheesecake. :X

I don’t think you’re obligated to pay, certainly not the entire bill, since he suggested the restaurant. D’s interviews for Cornell were on campus, but her interviews for other schools were held locally and were at Starbucks and the local library. At Starbucks, she got there early and bought her own coffee so “who pays?” was not an issue. Be prepared to pay for your share, but let him pick up the tab if he offers.

If you do order a meal, make sure it’s something you can eat with a knife and fork. No messy sandwiches. CF does have an online menu so you can preselect and won’t have to be scouring the menu in front of your interviewer. And since you’re at CF there’s never anything wrong with Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake (or my favorite - key lime) and coffee.

alright thanks! i just found out that my interviewer is the manager of the restaurant

this is for anywho who has already had an interview…the cornell website says to bring a resume, did any of your interviewers ask for it?

They didn’t ask for it, but I brought one- it really helped, since my whole interview was revolved around it.

did you just mention that you brought along your interview and did you give it to them? i dont want to seem too forceful. my interviewer called me up today and told me not to dress up, rofl. it better not be a trick =P

My sister interviews for Princeton and she told me that if the interviewer offers to pay for your coffee/whatever, don’t insist. Just remember to be gracious about it, do well in your interview, and don’t forget to mention that in your subsequent thank-you card afterwards. Dress “informal/country-club attire”; I wore khaki slacks, a polo, and a cashmere sweater.

Granted, I had an ILR interview at Starbucks, so I don’t know if this applies to Hotel also (I heard somewhere Hotel has dressier requirements?)

I wore nice slacks, a dress shirt, and a preppy argyle sweater on the outside. I brought a resume and just said “Here’s my resume” lol. =]
