My d is considering CMC. Looking for some feedback on the interviewing process there and if recent acceptees felt like the interview was key to being accepted? Also, was your interview informational or evaluative in nature?

Thanks.

I know interviews can be intimidating for some students, but I didn't find the CMC interview intimidating at all. It was a semi-formal interview - they asked some questions about what I did in HS, what my school was like, what activities I did etc., but were also interested in what my life was like (then again, my life was a little more unique than other's). I don't know for sure if it helped my acceptance, but I would encourage your D to go for an interview. It'll help the admission team get to know her better, and in the end, it just might help in the admission process.

Well...

I did the interview and wasn't accepted, but if you still want to hear some about the interview process please continue reading ahead.

Sorry to say it was scheduled early Saturday morning and my interviewer was polite but looked at me glassy-eyed the entire time, sometimes she'd write a little note or word on her yellow notepad but mostly you could tell she was pretty much zoning out. We were in Dean Vos' office and just outside the room were a bunch of kids ready to take a campus tour.

I guess I'm boring, though I smiled, was polite, answered her questions as best I could. The interview lasted about forty minutes, and I was slightly dying because she was like a block of glassy ice-- I wasn't quite sure anything was getting through to her in the interview.

She asked the usual questions: What's your school like, what APs are you taking, what's your family like, what's living in ______ like, why do you want to major in this. She also asked who was someone I admired, and why. It was pretty standard and I think she was going to doze off but she contained herself until the interview was over.

Best wishes to your daughter.

even though i won't be attending cmc (for really no other reason other than i felt i wasn't ready for move all the way across the country YET), i'll offer my input.

i didn't end up interviewing, and was still accepted. i'm from new hampshire, and i wasn't able to visit campus, so i would have interviewed in boston. unfortunately, i didn't find out until 2 days before the deadline to interview. oops. even still, i got in without that interview aspect. :)

i did not have an interview, and i was accepted.
