Intiguing/untraditional essay

I have a question: I have written (and am revising) and essay I had written last week. Originally, I had planned to send this essay to more liberal-minded schools like Rice and Columbia and perhaps University of Chicago, but now I would really like to send it to Georgetown because it tells a lot about me but in a very untraditional format with some sarcasm. In general, I've been getting mixed reviews about it. If any non-high school CCers would like to read it, I'll PM it over, otherwise I would like to know what you guys think about sending in untraditional essays to Georgetown. I've always pictured Georgetown as an ivy-covered, conservative-body school. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

I know the rule of thumb is to just be yourself, but I am wondering if plunging into a risk is really worth it.

I’m applying to SFS by the way. So the essay is topic is supposed to focused on an international issue. Mine is…but I believe it is risky.

I’d love to read your essay. I can send you mine as well. Obviously, we’ve both already applied so its not like we can steal the others essay haha

beirut08, as posted on other threads… just be yourself. everyone wants to find an angle to get them in, but you have to be true to yourself.

For my essay, I psycho-analyzed my own personality by analyzing my messy room, with quite the bit of sarcasm in it, and I got in (and actually got a personal note from my admissions counselor about it!). As long as you’re not making yourself look bad or supporting a controversial/offensive point of view.

That being said, I’m a Junior at Georgetown, and would be more than happy to read your essay and comment if you PM it over to me! Best of luck!
