Does anyone know approximately how many ED applicants does princeton get from India? And also from around the world... I tried googling but no luck..

Aw I wish I knew. I asked akash what the rkp pton ed'ers were like and he said there's nobody so that's cool :p

NOBODY! Thats some great news :D

Yeah I know!! Heh. People are scared by the essays. Gotta love princeton for having five of them - if you count the summer one and the optional, which is well optional but oh well

The competition for internationals is very, very tough. From what I have heard and read, only the best students from abroad apply to top american colleges, which makes the applicant pool a bit (not sure how much) stronger than the overall applicant pool. In addition, 1937 internationals applied last year and 158 were admitted, for an overall admit rate of 8.2%. The "wildcard" aspect of the process comes in when they're looking at applicants from XXX number of countries and parts of the world and want a diverse and interesting mix of students. There is probably an attempt to admit students from a diverse array of backgrounds and nationalities, which may make it tougher for people from places like India, China, Western Europe, or Canada (all places where they probably get a high number of applicants).
Unfortunately, the entire class cannot be made up of foreign students, so it appears they cap them at around 10%. Anyways, ED should help you guys a lot, because I'm sure they fill a lot of that space with ED people.

BTW, here's where I got the numbers from above:

The info is towards the bottom. Oh, and if you're interested, check out that legacy admit rate...wtf?? Also look at the SAT interquartile ranges for applicants/acceptees/enrollees. Interesting stuff.

yeah, that legacy admit rate is high, but they only made up 3% of the applicants so I'm not to bothered...plus, if they didn't do that then the school would most likely have a smaller endowment and therefore less financial aid, making it impossible for many of us to even apply....

Best, not really; ambitious, yes.

First and foremost, only the super rich typically even think of studying abroad (even in, e.g. ukraine). US is the most expensive. Then comes the 'brilliant' part.

For the rest of us, hoping for HYPM, or pulling hair trying to get into IIT/AIIMS is the only option.

How hard is IIT to get into? I saw something on TV about it one time...it looks pretty crazy. What is AIIMS?

Haha, cavalier...timing.....see mercurysquad's thread: "And now just for some perspective"...

Kebree, legacies only make up 3% of the applicant pool yet 14% of the incoming student body cringes. I guess what you said about the whole endowment thing is true, but still...

30 years down the line, our children might benefit from that. Dont just think from your own (our own!) perspective.
