intl finaid for Columbia

How difficult is it to get finaid for non-resident intl students at Columbia? Especially the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Sciences?

Do they often meet the required aid for accepted intl students?

aaron56: One of the students from Nepal( BNKS) got accepted into Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Sciences this year. He had his full need met. Although at the end he chose Caltech over Columbia!

:)

cool. i'm applying to both :D though i know my chances are slim slim slim.
but it was good news about finaid at Fu Foundation SEAS after hearing some doubts about finaid for intls.

International financial aid is minimal at Columbia, and the chances of acceptance if you apply for a significant amount of financial aid are miniscule. Columbia's website says that they only accept a maximum of 10 internationals a year with full financial aid:

'Columbia has very limited funding for foreign students applying either as first-years or transfers, and competition for these funds is very keen. If you are a foreign student admitted to Columbia with financial aid, you will continue to receive aid for each year that you demonstrate need; if you are a foreign student admitted without aid, you might receive it later only in the case of drastic and unforeseen changes in your family's circumstances.

Foreign applicants admitted to Columbia College with financial aid join a very select group of foreign students called the Global Scholars. Fewer than ten per year can be accepted, so it is a very rare distinction indeed. Because the SEAS community is so small, foreign applicants to The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science who need financial aid must be considered on a case-by-case basis; candidates should be aware that such awards may not be possible every year.'

ohhhhhhh :(

Yup, Columbia has very limited funding for international students. Especially the Fu Foundation. Columbia College is very good, but the Engineering School is not considered to be as good, though much tougher to get into. And, the student from bnks getting into Fu Foundation was a rarity, it has happened extremely infrequently. In fact, I know of just one other student who got into Fu, and he chose MIT over it.
Good luck anyway.
By the way, aaron, where did u do high school? I don't think bnks
