Intl not seeking fin aid. Safeties?

Are there any schools where an intl not seeking fin aid (and with good stats/ECs - or so I think!!) has a great chance of getting in?

Secondly, can I go about choosing safeties the way an American applicant would?

Most state unis would be a safety if you aren't asking for aid.

Go find the list with the FA listings. Percentage of FA requested given, percentage of Internationals receiving FA. Then do the reverse we unlucky folk do.

:)

USC comes to my mind. Maybe also NYU, BC, BU, etc. Definitely not Tufts! (but as a member of the Class of 2012 - Thread you probably know that already :))

Many state unis. However, schools like UCB, UCLA, other good UCs, UT, UNC Chapel Hill, UMich (i think) and probably some other state schools as well are extremely difficult to get into for internationals.

I've heard that Haverford is also actively looking for international students who can pay in full. Because of their limited budget they can only provide aid for about 3 international students, however apparently they are very eager to increase their percentage of international students. I don't know if this is true or just a myth though. Obviously, I'd never consider Haverford a safety but keep in mind that some colleges need internationals who can pay and might accept them in bigger numbers.

Princeton

Princeton... some inside joke that I don't get?

You don't need state unis as safeties if you aren't applying for any need based aid...For u, colleges where your SAT scores are in the top 25% of the application pool would be safeties. Since, I believe you'll have excellent SAT and high school scores, essays and ECs, you'll have no problems. Try LACs beyond US News Top 50. They would be good safeties, if u aren't asking financial aid.

Princeton? I am not sure...

University of Richmond, Villanova university...these are also good for safeties, for u, tetris.

Tetris, most state unis are safeties for you. Exceptions : Berkeley, UCLA, Umich (they are very unpredictable).

You can also easily get into Emory, BU, Vanderbilt, Rice also, I think.

No, Rister's for real.

:P

Well, if you don't apply for financial aid, by the time you'll get all your decisions, you'll have some good surprises. tetris, apply to as many colls you can, so that you'll have 10-12 colls to choose from. Seriously, I'm not joking.

An intl std asking no finanical aid is a dream applicant of any college. :D

USC is not a safety. Their admit rate is pretty damn low.

I don't quite think I agree with this. If you're not asking for aid, I don't suppose you have to apply to as many colleges as fin aid seeking students have to. Having 10-12 schools to choose from will cause you an unnecessary amount of stress/heartache.

On seconds thoughts, I think you may be right...why can't tetris take courses on stress management? bad attempt at joke..haha :D

jasonshah is pretty much on target with this comment: "An intl std asking no finanical aid is a dream applicant of any college."

If you can pay the full bill, then you only need to worry about making a list of schools where your stats are in range. That will be just about any state university, and loads of the LACs. Use any of the search tools to find matches for your grades and the major field of study. There are something like 3,000 colleges/universities in the USA. Most of them accept 70% or more of their applicants. You have plenty of choices.

Wishing you all the best.

I know that NYU does not even have money enough for domestic students. Similar case with BC/BU if you cant pay the bill. Actually, Tufts is probably better than NYU in terms of FinAId.

yeah well i think when tetris said, "Intl not seeking fin aid." she was implying that
she's looking for safeties for students who CAN pay the bill

Oh. In that case, you'd be right. Tetrisfan would be a shoo in to places like NYU/BU/BC if he could pay the bill

I'm a she, Kowloon! :)

@Rister: Of course, Princeton will be my utmost safety :p! Anyway, Haverford wants more full-pay internationals? That's good...it's a nice place, what with the consortium.

@poly: Rice? Really? Rice is cool! :D

@lv (haha, I couldn't resist :D): Hey, I wouldn't mind going through that sort of stress! Good dilemmas are in short supply!

Anyway, can I really consider places like USC and NYU safeties?

Guys what about CMU? They don't offer fin aid at all for intls, so...

I would not consider CMU, NYU or Haverford safeties... All of them are too prestigious among internationals to be safe. (NYU's international acceptance rate is about 30% even though NYU does not offer need-based aid to internationals...)
