On the "International Student Financial Aid Application"...
Why do I have to list the names of the colleges that I am applying to??
does this matter at all? Will it affect my financial aid package?

do you guys have any idea?
thanks

I'm not an expert on the Int'l form, but let me relay an experience of one of my clients:

She applied to 5 colleges. It turned out that two of them had a rather competitive history with one another. When school 1 saw that she had applied to school 2, they contacted her and told her to send over the FA offer when it arrived. We faxed them shool 2's offer about a week later.

School 1's response was, we can beat that by $500, and sent her their offer. We then sent school 1's offer to school 2. School 2's response was, we can beat that by $500.

We did this about 3 more times and ultimately improved her FA awards by about $2,500 per year.

This will not happen in all cases, but my advice is make sure all the schools know who you are applying to. It can often work in your favor.

Unless of course you applied to a bunch of stingy schools. Then you may be SOL.

Do you think it will look arrogant if I put HYPSM and so on?
I'm not a prestige-seeker or anything like that and I dont want to give them the wrong impression.
I am applying to top colleges because they happen to be the only ones that give out financial aid..

If you have applied there list it.
