I'm an american, but chose to go to school at the chinese university of hong kong (fall 2005). I am open to the idea of transferring back to the US after my freshman year, but really want to know if anybody has any knowledge about the possibility of getting into US med schools from foreign schools. Good grades EC and MCAT's are necessary for sure, but even with them do you think any school would take me?
Thanks to anyone who can help me figure this out.

i heard it's extremely difficult for international students to gain admission into american medial schools. however, if you are a u.s. citizen/permenant resident, i believe it's a different story.
...please correct me if i'm wrong

is it really true that they rarely ever accept international students to US med schools? and does anyone know if there are any exceptions for Canadians or whether the same applies for Canadian med schoosl?

you could always just do your medicine abroad and score well on the USMLE to practice here...a lot of premeds who dont get into med school in the us do this.

4success,

i am an international student attending an american 4yr university and the only thing my premed advisor said about chances was that i'll have a better chance at getting into Harvard than into a place like UT-Southwestern (Texas, which mandates 90% of incoming class must be in-state; and i'm pretty sure that these two institutions are almost on par in terms of reputation / prestige).

lots of the people i've asked say that private medical school adcoms tend to be more of equal-opportunity people than those at state schools.
